In the tooltip for the start g-code option, it says you can use values from other settings like this: [temperature]
That's all it says though, which isn't too helpful. It's not even a good example because is it extruder temperature or bed temperature? Which extruder?
Does anyone have documentation on what the full list of options is? I'm really hoping we can use xyz coordinates like KISSlicer allows. It's a stretch I'm sure, but it would be nice...

Look at the main page of the Repetier firmware. It lists all of the GCode commands that the firmware can take.
Usually the 'stock' start/end codes are pretty close. A few, like Cura need some tweaks. (specifically the G28 X0Y0Z0 command only needs to be G28)

What I was asking though was about the substitution feature in MatterControl specifically. So that if you put something like this in your "start g-code" box:
M104 S[temperature]
...when you slice a model, the generated gcode would become:
M104 S225
(just for example)
Just for context, what I'm looking to do is make the effector travel to a wipe pad every time it changes extruders. So I'd be hoping I could write something like this:
G1 X-130 Y20 Z[currentZ]
G1 Z6
G1 Y-130 Y-20
G1 Z[currentZ]
