Firmware Update Broke My Printer

Post by sethian »

For some dumb reason I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade the firmware for my Rostock Max V2. Now when ever I home the towers the arms drop down and crash into the print bed. I have to shut off the power before something gets broken. I've cleared and re uploaded the newest version many times according to the instructions in the user manual.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

you need to check the manual....... gene has a step for checking the stepper direction you may have to invert the stepper. when you do a Z move does it go the correct direction?

Yes, Z goes in the right direction. The main issue is it won't stop after I home the towers it wants to keep going and doesn't stop.

Run the M119 check in the manual to make sure your end stop switches are working. If you hit "home" and the platform moves down, you've got to invert the stepper direction for all three axes.

Also, any time you make a major change like that, keep one finger on the power switch. That way if it goes pear shaped on you, you won't hammer the nozzle into the bed.

Thanks! I had to invert the Y and Z axis. Now when I home or reset all axis go up as they should, they just won't stop. I have to keep my finger on the power switch to keep them from breaking through the roof of the machine. The weird thing is I did the M119 check before inverting and it all x,y and z had max:L's, now the X axis has a Max:H. I didn't even touch the x axis. How could the wiring just go bad? Why would the new firmware cause all this to happen? It was printing beautifully before I upgraded...

One more thing.. While I was uploading the new firmware there was the message in red in the bottom box that said, " Low memory available, stability problems may occur ".

Interested in a solution to this as well. I was thinking it could be something with the board?

I wonder if I can find an older version of the firmware that might fix the problem..

Download the firmware from the SeeMeCNC github repo. Upload THAT firmware. Follow the docs on how to do that. The warning is also mentioned in the manual.
