Print popped off the bed

Post by Gumleezy »

Hi everyone,

I have a medium sized print that's about 6" x 5" x 1.5", and it printed about 75 percent of the way through and then popped off the bed early. I had a heck of a time getting the initial layer to stick. I use a glue stick to help with adhesion, and I used a lot of it because without it the initial profile wouldn't adhere. I'm using ABS, running my temps at 240 for the nozzle and 90 for the bed. Is there anything I can do to help ensure my print will remain adhered to the bed for the duration of a 7-8 hr print?

Thanks!

You need to reset your Z zero point. The hot end is too far off the bed when it thinks it's at zero.

I haven't had any problems with a print just popping off when I use a glue stick for ABS except for a few instances when I had some stuff wrong.

First, I didn't have the nut that holds the hotend to the platform tight. So that shifted around causeing issues.

Second, on a large print, I would repeatedly find the print knocked off or even the entire sheet of glass knocked off. This I found was caused because the travel speeds are not linear. So the larger the print, the slower you need to make the travel speeds so that the arms don't loose their positions.

But what brand and type of glue stick are you using?

PEI is the best brand of glue stick to use :)

Honestly PEI works great. More info: http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=7452

I used hairspray for a little while as-well. It held just fine, but makes one heck of a over-spray mess.

Right now I'm using an Avery glue stick. I adjusted the Z height a bit, hopefully that will do the trick. If not, I'll explore these other suggestions. Thanks everyone!
