Interesting new Diamond hotend 3x filament
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wr ... olor-3d-pr
This seems to be a well thought out hotend to me for multi color/material extruders. Maybe the only drawback will be the cost of new tips? I will be keeping an eye on this one even though it will require many changes to go on a maxV2.
Is there a 3 extruder controller board that is plug and play for the maxV2?
It cant be much more mass than a kraken from the looks of it. The small mix chamber is the interesting part to me. Much less waste and time printing to your wipe tower.

RUMBA, Azteeg X3 Pro, and the Melezi can handle it easily. RUMBA is probably the cheapest.

Obvious question... is this legit or an April Fools' joke?
If there's supposed to be an obvious gotcha revealing it, I'm not seeing it.

The diamond hotend orr??
The diamond is a real thing, I saw something in the 3D hubs newsletter a while back about it. All I saw was the 3 color marvin, and I didn't pay it much mind, but it looks pretty cool. I think it *may* be better than the cyclops design (from a force standpoint), but time will tell.

Lol yes I was asking about the diamond hotend. Didn't mean to insinuate that your controller insights were the joke! Haha, my bad.

Re: Interesting new Diamond hotend 3x filament
Is there a consensus on if this new HotEnd is the new next best thing?

Re: Interesting new Diamond hotend 3x filament
The kickstarter is still going, so I don't think theres much to say about it yet. Looks promising though.
Re: Interesting new Diamond hotend 3x filament
Thanks, I was hoping someone had some early insight or had their hands on a pre-release.Nylocke wrote:The kickstarter is still going, so I don't think theres much to say about it yet. Looks promising though.

Re: Interesting new Diamond hotend 3x filament
The order went in today for about $60.00 shipped, without the heatsinks. (Heat Cartridge, Thermistor, and screw and wire kit included.)
Diamond Hotend
Additionally, I'll need this stuff: (sourcing and prices may vary, this was just a quick search for what I needed.)
E3D Heatsinks (V6) x3
E3D Heatbreak (Stainless Steel) x3
RUMBA Printer Controller
Stepper Drivers x6
Ezstrudersx2
I may include a new ATX power supply. I don't know if I'll be able to re-utilize the LCD display panel already in the printer, so that may need to be sourced as well.
A mount will need to be designed, but I think that shouldn't be difficult if combining something similar to the existing E3D mount with the top mounted cold end (PEEK) fan. I also plan to use more of jfettig's great designs and mount my EZStruders on the exterior (Top) of my printer.
Did I miss anything?
Thanks!
Rob

Mine arrived in the mail today. I ordered some parts for it on aliexpress.

Diamond Hotend mount for Rostock Max
Printing this now to see how it'll work out. It's already missing the tabs to mount the layer fans, but that should be easy enough to add.

Mine turned up, it appears to be missing the insulating sheets, did anyone else receive them with theirs?

No, but I only ordered the nozzle. Here's some insulation: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271673466700Polygonhell wrote:Mine turned up, it appears to be missing the insulating sheets, did anyone else receive them with theirs?
Re: Interesting new Diamond hotend 3x filament
jjust got mine too.. any idea how to get this sucker on a rostock max v2 ? I'm assuming some soldering and firmware changes but that's beyond my current knowledge on the machine

Re: Interesting new Diamond hotend 3x filament
They sent out the fire blanket pieces and I did most of the assembly on mine last week, if I can bring myself to turn on a soldering iron with the heat here over the weekend I'll run off some test prints with it.

Re: Interesting new Diamond hotend 3x filament
trail blaizer!!.. take pictures.. how are you doing test prints? Will you start with just one color? I'm assuming some fimware changes will bee needed to control the three filament servos? That and I guess i'll have to remove my ez-struder?

Re: Interesting new Diamond hotend 3x filament
I got as far as printing a test cube with a single extruder before it hit about 85 degrees in my office, I'll dick around with the firmware tomorrow and run something with dual extrusion. The single color test was nice, so I'm interested in seeing the results of dual extrusion.
I have lots of extruders here, at least 4 EZStruders, 2 are on the printer currently, if the dual extrusion looks good I'll knock up an extra driver for the Rambo on a bread board and try all 3.

Re: Interesting new Diamond hotend 3x filament
Just an update and a general warning to other people assembling these.
I managed to start a few 2 color prints, and they looked pretty good until they failed. My issue was that I have not sufficiently tightened the E3D thermal breaks into the brass heater block, and the back pressure while extruding was causing the plastic to escape through the thread, then dribble down the hotend drip onto the model and eventually when the head hit it cause the print to fail. Short version is I have to strip mine down and rebuild.
Generally I think it will end up being a good solution, you have to be careful not to retract too far, but the color transitions are very good.

thermal breaks? Do you mean the heat dampening thing you showed before? i never got any of those? I was "considering" using my brown gasket stuff there.

pics please, single, dual and triple color prints. All of what you do with it.
My Max Metall is waiting to decide if it worth to go triple color printing....

Re: Interesting new Diamond hotend 3x filament
The stainless steel pieces with the heatsinks from E3D, I did tighten them hot which your supposed to, but didn't use a tool to do it and as a result the PLA leaks through the screw thread. My fault, I just need to strip it down get rid of the PLA and re-assemble properly.prussiap wrote:thermal breaks? Do you mean the heat dampening thing you showed before? i never got any of those? Re: Interesting new Diamond hotend 3x filament
Here is the latest try at setting up my Diamond Hotend...I'm a little worried about clearance of the arms during close maneuvers to the edges of the print bed. Hopefully the arms don't hit the cooling fins.
