I just backed this for the early bird special... http://kck.st/1lz1hVG
There are a few similar build plates out now, but this one looks promising. I just wonder if it'll warp without the magnetic holder (not available for the Rostock).

What do you think of your build plates? They have a kit for the Rostock Orion and MAX now, including the magnetic holder. The plates are flexible, so you can just remove the plate and bend it a little and the parts come right off.
Should I spend a hundred bucks on this upgrade? Anything to look out for?

Re: GeckoTek Build Plate
I tried it. The coating is just sprayed on the plate and scratches permanently very easily. So poor durability. It lasted about 30 prints then I had to search for new spots on the plate to print on until the surface adherence wore out. I had a lot of lifting of corners on random prints. I did not pursue the abs plate. Was very disappointed. PEI is far better IMHO.626Pilot wrote:(two years go by...)

Re: GeckoTek Build Plate
I backed their Kickstarter campaign, and ended up with one ABS plate and one for Nylon. I haven't tried them yet (I know... Sorry) but I can comment on their product a little bit. The sheet metal that the build surfaces are sprayed onto look like someone cut them out by hand, some of the edges are a bit rough and you can tell where the cut strayed from the line a little bit. The coating itself may work, but it's applied poorly - both of my plates had some dust flecks and fisheyes in them.
The coating may work as advertised, which would be awesome, but the manufacturing quality isn't on par with what I was expecting.

Re: GeckoTek Build Plate
As I posted about elsewhere, I bought a GeckoTek plate without the magnetic backing plate, naively thinking I could just follow the directions and bulldog-clip it to the Onyx plate... What a miserabe failure. Nothing ever stuck to the damn thing. I believe I wasted fifty bucks on the snake-oil plate.

I got it with the magnetic plate and it's been working great for me. Sticks like crazy without having to squash the first layer on. Not sure if the magnetic base makes a big difference our not, but mine works great.
