Groove Mount / Bowden Adapter

Post by TFMike »

I have a seemecnc Orion, recently I noticed A LOT of dust gathering around the extruder, I added a washer to the hobbed gear, sanded it with 1000 grit sandpaper, test with a thermocouple the the hot end (it was accurate to within .5° Celsius). Today I tried spinning some filament (abs - 1.75) through the extruder by hand, just spinning the knob - IT GROUND THE FILAMENT UP BY JUST THIS ALONE. I reasoned that this meant there was something up with this part:

So I took the EZ Struder apart and took a look at my groove mount and sure enough there was some flashing around the end where the filament entered. I filed it down and sanded it with 600 and then 1000 grit paper, now the filament flows through much more easily but I was wondering if it would be a bad idea to bore the hole out to 2.35 mm if I have any problems in the future. It wouldnt affect the thread that the PTC hooks into, it would just give a slightly bigger tunnel for the filament to run through. Good idea or bad idea?

the idea is fine, dont know if I'd go quite that high.. when I build the orions, with the machine assembled, I remove the ptc fitting off the ezstruder, and run a drill straight down through that adapter, and through the plastic so I know I have a straight shot from the hobb to the ptc.. yours may have either missed the drilling or didnt run it enough and it was getting caught on a burr... the reason I run it like that with it on the machine assembled is after the ezstruder is bolted on, the plastic may press together or shift slightly, so I run it with it bolted so I know its a smooth run during operation and assembled.
