I just checked that app and it's free! Imagine Microsoft giving away a 3D app for Windows 8 users!bubbasnow wrote:http://www.redmondpie.com/microsoft-rel ... d-objects/

Does anyone know if this supports the Orion??
Re: 3d builder app for windows 8.1
So no one has tried to write a "Printer driver" for Windows that recognizes the max and Orion then...?

Re: 3d builder app for windows 8.1
I installed it on my machine and played around with it a little. I was really hoping to use its scanning feature on a Kinect, but I couldn't get the program to recognize the scanner, so I'm not sure if it's cool or not.
Did anybody else notice that the online NetFabb Cloud model repair service has been a Microsoft product for a while?
You're in the know on the new 3MF filetype, right?

Download and install the Windows 3D Printing SDK http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId= ... lcid=0x409
In the install directory you should find everything needed to get it working, "if possible" C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\3D Printing\Documentation
This document seems promising;

Jimustanguitar: Yes to both. I haven't used NetFabb for anything since they keep a copy of the model, and I'm not willing to just give the access to our stuff. I haven't looked into the 3MF file type much. Until more software supports it I'll just keep using OBJ to GCODE like I am now.
KAS: Yep. Did all that. I'm not a code monkey, so my attempt failed with a major WTF man... Which is why I'm wondering if anyone has actually gotten this stuff you work...

I tried searching the normal avenues but not coming up with anything worthwhile. Could be just a pain in the ass to setup or people realize they can do everything with free programs like MatterControl and not have to tinker with the program to get it working.
I recently started using S3D, uninstalled all the other programs I was trying out and haven't looked back.

Re: 3d builder app for windows 8.1
Waking up an old thread...
I'm working on a project with a customer that created his parts in Microsoft 3D Builder, and holy crap are its STL files garbage. Check out the ridiculous triangles that it generates on flat surfaces and the way it tries to have a kajillion triangles share the same corner point. What a mess.
This part is basically shaped like a top hat, viewed from above.

Netfabb says the part has 31 shells and 60 holes! It doesn't cleanup with Sketchup plugins, Netfabb basic or cloud, DesignSpark, makeprintable, or the Autodesk Spark Platform repair tool... It's completely unusable.
Here's what a normal program would output.

I won't be trying to use that software for anything else, wow!

Luckily that part looks simply enough to remake in a couple of minutes in some other program.
