Host Crashing
Host Crashing
Hey guys I dont mean to be a post whore but this is something that has really been urking the hell out of me. Im using Repitier host in Virtual Machine on my mac with windows 7. Everytime i go in to try and adjust the eeprom settings to change the print height to lower the hot end closer to the bed. it crashes and says windows is searching for the problem etc. why is this?
Ive found that if I sometimes heat the extruder and the bed it wont quit but thats only 1 out of 5 times.
Is there a specific order of things you have to go through before clicking on the eeprom settings tab?

Re: Host Crashing
I don't know about your crash problem, but doesn't Repetier Host come in a mac version? Might be worth trying since it would eliminate the VM and Windows 7 from the equation.
Re: Host Crashing
yeah eric I have been thinking about that but ive been to lazy. Another issue I cant seem to grasp with my slicing is it seems like objects i download from thingiverse come out as solid objects when ran through slicer. Like this Vase. it shows as a hollow object but then when I add it and start printing it seems like its going to be solid. what do you think? the print time is like 39 hours.Eric wrote:I don't know about your crash problem, but doesn't Repetier Host come in a mac version? Re: Host Crashing
In my opinion, the first thing you need to do is to install the mac version of the host. VM's can and do cause
problems. Once you are on a stable host we can troubleshoot the problems without always thinking the VM
is the problem. I just loved your comment about being a post whore, that one gave me a chuckle.
Contact us with the problems after you switch with the Mac version and we will be glad to assist.

Re: Host Crashing
I second Eaglezsoar's advice: VMs are just one more thing to go wrong. Besides, why'd you get a Mac if you're just going to run Windows apps? (-:
As for the solid vases, many models are indeed solid. What you need to do is, create a profile in Slic3r for vases. Set it to have a single perimeter, set the fill density to zero, and set the number of top solid layers to zero. That combination will have Slic3r generate a single-wall hollow print from a solid object.

Hey everyone got it up and running on the Mac side. First try at the hollow cube didnt go so well. now when I send to the printer to extrude. It will then after some time it starts to retract. What would be the cause of this? Also I cannot connect through arduino on the mac side when I try to send the inverse command for the extruder motor it doesnt go through. I am still able to do it through the windows side.
thanks
thanks
Re: Host Crashing
Needing someone to give me pointers just tried some calibration cube prints on the Mac side now I'm getting bad prints.

Re: Host Crashing
For that print what is your print speeds, print temp, layer height and nozzle diameter?
If everything is working right (extruder isn't gunked up, no blockage/partial jams, etc) then off hand it looks like you are printing too fast at too low a layer height and possibly without enough heat depending on your material.

Lordbinky,
I believe I have the standards set in the guide.
Print speed is:
100

Printing ABS-
EXtruder temp is 225
Heated bed temp is 100
Layer height is below

Nozzle is the stock nozzle size. I believe its .5
I dont think there is any blockage. If I just use the command extrude when it is warmed up the filament comes out smooth.

Re: Host Crashing
Awesome. So did find what was wrong and did you do anything to fix it or did it just clear up?
Re: Host Crashing
I think it was seeing my filament size as 3nm when it's bout 1.75
