SeeMeCNC Laser Cutter

Post by 626Pilot »

Few questions about the cutter.
  1. What's the positional accuracy?
  2. Does it need to be vented to the outside, or is there some air filter it can be run through?
  3. Does it require any consumables other than cutting material?
  4. Can I print directly over USB, and is it compatible with LinuxCNC?
  5. Do you plan to offer a rotary attachment for engraving cylinders at some point?
  6. Are there any accessories, like lenses for different focal lengths?
(To comply with the rules: "Sharks with friggin' lasers")

You never, EVER run a laser cutter that's not vented to the outside. Ever.

I've seen cutters from other manufacturers that they sell with absurdly expensive ($1,000+) HEPA filters for unvented use. I guess for the money it's cheaper to cut a hole in the wall.

You also have to make sure the immediate outside is unoccupied. Some level of filtration may be required if you don't have enough open space, depending on the kind and quantity of pollution you're generating.

I vent mine through the wall using a 4" dryer vent. That vents into the "hut" on the back of my shop that houses my air compressor and the dust collector for the ShopBot.

Heh, had a friend try to engrave a moose antler in an epilog laser engraver. Even vented to the outside it stunk up the office! It turned out really well, but they said they'd never do it again.

I get an odor in my shop when cutting acrylic with mine. i shudder to think how bad that burnt antler must have smelled. :)

Is SeeMe getting out of the laser cutter business? I don't see it in the shop anymore.
