Help - top mount EZstruder

Post by Capt Jack »

I bought the top mount EZstruder kit with my new Rostock, and I can't find assembly instructions for it anywhere. Anyone?

I searched and also could not find any instructions. I quess they figure they don't need to provide documentation.
They are some pictures scattered throughout the forum but they are not easy to find now. I guess you'll have to install
it by trying different configurations. I did find a couple of pictures at http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php ... 5&start=20

But search, k?
Thanks....and I did search. All I found was other people's pictures. I even searched via google.

I was really hoping that one of the responses wasn't going to be "search". Ya really think I didn't try?

Also, is a "quick little teaser video" their idea of instructions?

Scratch that....the video doesn't even show anything!

To be clear, I'm looking for assembly instructions for the ezstuder to the top mount assembly that they sell.

I sent an email to SeemeCNC a few days ago asking for instructions or video for the ezstruder top mount and haven't heard from them yet. I'd heard they were at a maker faire.

Well, I managed to get it together (wasn't too difficult really) by looking at other pictures. I realize that these are kits, but some type of instruction should be available from them. Moving on...

Tell me about it. Our high was 90℉ yesterday, and with the air conditioner running full blast all day, my office went above 80. They just don't size A/C units right here in the Pacific Northwest.

I get irritable when the temperature goes above 75, so yeah. :) It's expected to get above 90 today. The house has a heat pump, but since my office used to be the 2 car garage in the house, it's not covered very well by that. :(

This is exactly what I needed. Thanks. Now what about the heater/fan/temp wires going to the hotend? No longer braced against the Bowden tube, they move around a lot, and that's no good. It will probably work-harden the wires and either break them or hose up one of the solder joints. What is everyone doing for a strain relief?

I haven't seen how they're mounted yet to the hot end... But I would think that they should/could still be bound to the bowden tube, at least the last few inches of it (if not the whole length after a short distance from the extruder) to stabilize it from movement while the head is moving to protect the solder joints and connection on the effector platform as you stated. If you only bind it to the last few inches before the platform, make sure you leave enough cable so it can read all the way to the bottom and the farthest sides of the build plate! If you don't, then it will most likey cause some serious issues when the head tried to move out there and break a connection, possibly the thermistor and lead to meltdown...

I know because I accidentally did this on mine when I used a string to suspend the wire loom from the roof but one time it had slipped loose and when I put it back I made the reach too short. The motors went down to the bottom and yanked on the wiring, I noticed quickly but everything "appeared" to be ok. I re-adjusted the suspension string and began reprinting... Shortly after the print started I began to see the hotend appear to have very strange movement, it was melting! Luckily I quickly shutdown, and was able to hold the heater core against the peek tube so the threading of the peek was able to cool and re-harden and it's still working to this day many many hours later! Maybe someone else could chime in that already has done this setup, but I will be doing it soon and that's how I would handle it

Here's how I did mine after installing the ez-struder:

See http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php ... 0&start=30 for how I routed the wiring.

Just FYI - I've got photos taken for the install, but I'm waiting for a hardware BOM from John before I write it up. I grabbed what I had on hand to assemble mine, so it likely won't match what you guys get. I also have a method of doing routing for the wiring that you guys may or may not like. :)

The top mount filament holder is a huge improvement over the original design. My filament used to bind itself up because the old axle design caused too much friction, but I've ran through quite a few meters since installing it and it hasn't fouled itself up even once. Together with the EZStruder, this is a great mod!
