Layer Shifting

Post by darkjorik »

Last 10 days I have a trouble, Layer Shifting with my MAX2.
I can print test cube easy. Everything fine.

But with bigger model I get a Layer Shifting , very accurate , after 50% of print.
I checked everything. belts and carriage. And cant find a problem.

Maybe one stepper die ? How to check this ?

test cube have a 40X40X40 mm. Printed in excellent quality.
I have a trouble with big model, started after 12 mm height.
Maybe longer working time make stepper hotter, and get errors.
But I dont know how to check this.

How much bigger model? Is it lifting on the corners? What travel speed are you using? Are the motors getting uncomfortably hot to the touch? Which motors are they and what current do you have set?

I finally got my Rostock Max V2 printing really well again after experiencing layer shifting and degraded quality over time.
There were 3 issues that I had to address in addition to checking belt tension.
1. I noticed a click from the Y-axis injection molded carriage. When I took it apart an injection molded post that the wheels pivot on fell out. SeeMeCNC sent a replacement part immediately and this improved quality but not completely.
2. Then I added a fan to cool the RAMBO board. I thought that the stepper drivers may have been overheating. This seemed to improve the prints but there was still intermittent issues with layer shifting.
3. I noticed a small movement in the print bed and tightened the screws that hold the bed snowflake (support plate) in place. My prints are coming out great now and I'm glad I didn't give up.

Same model and same slicer settings? The Rambo can get overwhelmed with too fast a move around the edge of the bed. I think I remember turning my travel/non-printing speed down significantly when I was doing my big print that spent a lot of time around the edges.

little different. I'm searched the problem and change stock hotend to E3D.
Now I'm printing with 0.4 nozzle , before this I'm use 0.5 and get succesfully printing more then 10 times without any trouble.
If you read what I'm write. I'm tried change speed to 50% and get some problem.
Each time I'm printing , I get fail after 49% -54%

I'm lost 2 kg PLA !

I did read that. I change my slicer settings rather than scaling the speed at the end. I'm not sure if Repetier scales speeds of non-printing moves.
