Rostock Max v2 stopped working

Post by Koops »

Hello!

I've not yet introduced myself, busy playing with the printer! My name is Kyle and i'm based in the UK.

I've managed to print the fan shroud for the peek and also hot end, installed them and now I am unable to print.

I open a model in mattercontrol, select print, the bed warms and gets up to temp (the message "waiting for bed to heat") dissapears and the printer displays "printing".

However the hot end seems to hang about 2-3c short of whatever temp I put for the hot end, there is no movement and I cancelling the print does nothing, the only resolve is to end the program and restart the printer.

Any assistance appreaciated

Thanks

Kyle

I can move the machine with the manual control from mattercontrol, I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the hot end, Rostock display just shows heating extruder, and temp hovers 2-3c below. I have had the temp higher set as a target and then began the print, temp then drops to the same state and I get shown the same messages

Have you retuned PID after installing the fans? If not, I would boost your PID P gain a bit, and possibly up your drive max as well.

Yes, have done this, has not made a difference, I recalibrated too in hope this would alter something

Maybe your heating resistors burned out... Though, when it happens to me the temp ended up being 30c low, not 2-3

I've no idea, now tempted to buy a all metal hot end with the better resistors, have not been entirely convinced by this hot end and the siliconed resistors

I don't think a new hot end is the solution...

Do you have the ATX power supply (the one with all kinds of colored wires coming out of it) or the new 30A unit? The ATX supplies are notorious for not regulating terribly well. Even having offloaded my heated bed to a dedicated power supply driven by an SSR, I still occasionally find myself working around this issue by using the LCD to turn the heat down a couple of degrees momentarily and then turning it back up after the print starts.

It's a silly trick, but once the hot end gets near the target, stick your finger into the peek cooling fan to stop it. The temp should hop up and the print will start. Gotta be quick in getting your finger out of there though. :)

I've the latest power supply.

Also geneb, is there a way to overcome this? How come it's only when the machine had a print set to it. If I set the temp as a target it achieves it and doesn't deviate much from it. I imagine the fan for the peek had a single speed and isn't managed for different situations?

Even good power supplies can deliver a little less voltage under high load (when the bed and motors are added). That may explain it.

You can add some insulating silicone wrap to the heater block to prevent the PEEK fan from impacting the hot end temperature.

Problem solved now, spoke to JJ, he stated that the fan maye be "a turbo one" so I should edit the power of it in eeprom terminal, all done and hot end now achieves temp

Koops, what parameter did JJ have you change?

Hrm. They must have changed the internal mapping or something. Thanks!
