Hi! I just completed my Rostock MAX v2 build and am excited to get going.
I've printed a few good pieces and now of course I am starting the upgrade climb. Got a PEI bed and hooked up to a Raspberry Pi running OctoPrint. So far so good!
Here is a picture of my new giant baby:
Here it is with its little brother - a Prusa i3, the sturdy little machine that successfully hooked me into this whole world.
A few questions:
- I will probably be getting an enclosure (it's cold in this garage!) - is there a "consensus" on a good build?
- I read good things about dampers on some older posts but don't see them mentioned in new posts - Is this because they are now a de facto upgrade, or because there were issues with them and no one kept them?
Anyway, I'm excited to get going with this little beast and looking forward to participating here in whatever way I can.
- Marco

Re: Hello from California!
For those who use dampeners, they mostly get built in at the initial build, and I believe many people find them useful/worthwhile. If you don't mind the noise, or won't be near it much, I wouldn't bother with dampeners. As far as enclosures go, Jfettig has one, and I've modified Raymond's V1 enclosure to fit the V2. You can find both pretty easily on these forums by searching.
Welcome to the forums, and happy printing.
(Also, it's not cold till the thermistors say they're defective when you boot it

Welcome to the forum marcom!
That is a good looking printer, you did an excellent job in building it.
Many users still use the dampeners but they are installed at build time, you can still install them but it will be a bit of work
to place them between the steppers and the wood frame.
Please ask anytime you have a question and participate by submitting comments, answering other user's questions, etc.
Thanks for buying the worlds best 3D printer kit, the Rostock Max V2.
Happy printing!

Thanks, Xenocrates and Eaglezoar!
I ended up getting the dampers (I am going to be near the printer so the less noise the better). While a bit of a pain to install post-assembly, they were definitely doable. I would agree with the opinion that they should be installed upon first assembly for other folks reading this. My hesitation for doing that was that I got the sense that it was preferable to assemble the stock machine, THEN do the upgrades - this is probably one of the few that might be the exception.
Also, I printed all the pieces for the JFettig enclosure, and now I gotta cut some Lexan. I am printing them in red, so the machine is starting to look bling-y. Will post pictures soon.
Unfortunately, it looks like I blew the Rambo F3 fuse (kids, don't try to adjust the nozzle while the machine is on!). Replacements coming in a few days. I am itching to get going again!

Regarding your question about an enclosure.......
I have an enclosure and use PEI bed. The enclosure at 40-50 degrees C at the bed level, and this with the PEI fixes almost all layer separation and lifting off the bed. It has been a great enclosure.
Here is my build thread and about where I build my enclosure and added the halogens (http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php ... =50#p63313). The enclosure is jfettig's enclosure (http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=7149)
