PETG 0.8mm Layer Height

Post by MrJoe »

I printed some "concrete fish" from thingiverse from PETG and placed them on an EL panel to photograph them. One color is Inland gold, the other is Inland clear. This is cheap filament, less than $19 (USD) per 1kg roll.

There are 0 top layers, 0 bottom layers and 30% hex infill. Printed at 240°C. e3D v6 Volcano with 1.0mm nozzle. Rostock Max V2 with the new carriages and arms.

I do a lot of serious 3D printing at work and this is an outlet for my artistic and non-serious side. I like seeing the layers in these, not sure if others will agree.

I think the picture of the print you did is fantastic. With the added lighting is truly looks like a piece of art.
Excellent print and I would love to see more of your work.

I like PETG but it has unique characteristics to make it better for some applications than others. A big one is the translucency, very nice lighting effects with light projected through it. It also has good springy strength. It isn't very good for very fine details, there is always a very small bubbling effect and it doesn't jam the extruder but it gets gummy after awhile. I am finding Polymax to be almost Lego level of plastic, no warping, super strong springy strength, lays down like PLA, gets really fine details. I am pretty much done with PLA and ABS after Polymax. Not a commercial, it is just so trouble-free, just print.
