Newbie.... finally getting off the ground.
Hi all.
I was just about to get going with a V2 and something happened (that I won't bore you with) that delayed the start.... But we are off!
Basically placing my orders this weekend. I am plannng to upgrade variaous parts immediately to save time (because I will only do it a few weeks down the line!)
Please forgive my newbie questions, but just trying to get my ducks in a line here....
My wish/order list:
RoStock Max V2
V6 Hotend
Replacement Noctua 40mm fan
Replacement 25mm fan
Upgraded Corsair 750w PSU
RGB led ring + controller
Carbon fibre arms - From where?
Nema astroysym dampers - From where?
I have read about a metal platform for the V6... but probably not available in the UK.
Is there an upgraded platform available for the V6 hotend?
I have also noticed people have been fitting rollers to the filament dispenser to make it run easier. Any advice there greatfully received.
Finally, heating the enclosure (yes... I will build a cabinet). Does a heated cabinet make a great difference?
Any recommendations for upgrades will be taken on board. I never leave anything standard, so even if I don't fit the stuff straight away... it would be nice to know what mods I will be adding.
Thanks all!

Arms and isolators from TrickLaser:
http://tricklaser.com/Carbon-Fiber-Tube ... M-CFTX.htm
http://tricklaser.com/Stepper-motor-ins ... -SMI-3.htm
If you want the floating stepper isolators from AstroSyn, message a user on this forum called AstroBoy.
Talk to TravelPhotoG about an aluminum mount for your e3d. If those aren't available, Trick Laser has you covered there too (can you tell that I like their stuff?). http://tricklaser.com/J-Head-Groove-Mou ... JHGMNT.htm
After the arms and the hot-end, my favorite mod that's done the most to help my prints has been an aluminum heat spreader. They're not for sale on the website, but if you're already ordering a bunch of stuff from Brian, ask him if he'll make you one as part of the same order.

Re: Newbie.... finally getting off the ground.
OK, I have my order list just about finalised.
750w replacement PSU enough? (fairly sure that will be fine)
Cooling. I know people replace their fans. I assume the 40mm one is for the controller board? What fans mount on the hot end - 25mm? 1 or 2?
And..... bash that credit card

10 awg and 12 awg noodle wire is a must in my opinion to wire the heated bed.
10 from psu to rambo 12 awg from rambo to bed.
Get a sheet of PEI.
I think those are absolute musts.

What is the PEI for?
Edit.... OK.... Googled it. Fits over the heat bed.
Seems a pain to fix however

That 20 usd piece of material is the single most significant upgrade i have done to my printer.
It is not that bad to fix. THere is a thread on it how it can be done with windex.

Thanks Teoman. What advantages does it hold over simply using the original bed then? Better adhesion?
I have also been reading up on vapour smoothing the final product. Interesting.

Re: Newbie.... finally getting off the ground.
PEI is a type of material that when heated ABS and PLA stick to it really well. Once it cools down PEI releases the material. You basically stick it on to your glass plate. With PEI you do not need to use glue or hairspray or any other material to stick the part to the bed.

The Windex method of mounting the PEI is here: http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php ... 775#p68077

Thanks. What thickness of PEI are people using? Looks like I will have to get it shipped from the US (which is a pain)
Re: Newbie.... finally getting off the ground.
ghere was a recent thread there about some one manufacturing an aluminium plate that wat pei coating.
I wonder what happened to that.

Hey ell
Rostock ordered.... along with lots of extra bits!!!
Few minor questions if anyone can help...
Are there no UK suppliers for the carbon fibre arms or Nema motor dampers? Its quick a whopping lump of pennies to get them over from the US
Also, what size LED ring fits the V6 Hotend? I want to illuminate what I am doing.
Finally.... fans. I asssume the 40mm is for the main board and the 25mm is for the hotend. Do these really need upgrading? Are they that bad?
Are people running one or two 25mm fans on the hotend?
OK... Found some PEI sheeting. Something else off the list.
Is it worth (or even required) to get one of these for my E3d V6 hotend?

In my opinion I believe that you should build the printer as stock with no upgrades.Stevolution wrote:Hey ell

Once the printer is built and calibrated you can then print the mount for the E3D Hotend (many are found on Thingiverse.com and Repables.com
If you build the printer without any concerns with upgrades then you need not concern yourself with fans, the ones included with the kit work fine.
The led circle found on Trick Laser works fine with most hotends but any ANGEL EYE LED circle of the appropriate diameter will work.
Best to you and your build!

Re: Newbie.... finally getting off the ground.
Thanks.
I was only going to upgrade the hotend because I know its something I will do almost immediately, so it saves a lot of time and pulling apart again.
I was after the actual diamter of the LED ring, as they come in various sizes.
The reason I was asking about the E3d V6 hotend ounting plate from Tricklaser, is that I am making an order out for the carbon arms and motor dampers... so if the plate was worth getting, then it may as well go in this shipment from the US to the UK.

The mounting plate from Trick Laser as well as their led ring would work fine for you.Stevolution wrote:Thanks.
