I'm not doing anything out of the standard with the build, but I just felt the need to throw my trials into the mix. Soon my pretty....so very soon......

After 2 evenings of a couple hours each, tape removed(evil genius who designed this), stepper motors mounted, and the power supply setup.

Now I did make a mistake as I was putting the washers on the screws of all things, it was 2 am and I was very tired. I snagged a washer and shoved it on the screw with my screw driver....things didn't go so well. So it was at this time i decided it was too friggin late and I needed sleep. Threads destroyed, screw bent, and washer sideways.

We've all been there, trying to build a printer instead of sleeping. Nice job on the bent screw!
Seriously, in this case the damage is minimal but the next time could cause some real damage, get your sleep!
This looks like a good build thread because you have a sense of humor, taking pictures of bent screws before going to sleep proves it.

Oh I do remember the all the tape. Awesome job!! You will have a great time with the rest of the bolts, screws and nuts!!

Love my RoStock!!! My family tells me that its my "baby" and every time I go in to check a print, I get the question of "did it need a diaper change?" I say YES, it was nasty!!!

We've gone vertical! So I had a goal last night to get the towers up before heading to sleep.

While yes I did accomplish my goal, it took WAY longer than it should have. I was a little tired when I started from putting up a new fence around my yard. So I started at less than optimal alertness. I will admit that I was nervous about soldering the Onyx board. I haven't had to use that particular skill in awhile, but funny enough it went well. The hard part was feeding the wires through the aluminum uprights. So let this be a lesson to all who venture here, STRAIGHTEN YOUR WIRES AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE BEFOREHAND. Seriously, if you don't, they bind in the last few inches.

Now on today's edition of maybe a little too tired construction. Apparently, when I get tired, I go full barbarian mode and just strong arm everything. I bent a screw last time. This time, I just didn't think of the smart way to do something, and used my teeth to open a bag, when I had 2 knives sitting in front of me. One was even open. MUST OPEN BAG.

BONUS And forget any penthouse offices, my desk will have the best view around when I'm done. Oh and as for a "baby", I already have one of those, but it's looking like I might be getting another.

I think I have a handle on the basics of the printer, but I haven't even begun to touch on what the upgrades would require in the future. I don't suppose you have some examples for me?

If i were you. I would put thicker wires going to the heated bed...

Also spare a few 5v and 12 v and gnd wires. Put connectors on them and trim the rest.

I can see how I am going to want to upgrade and mod this beauty as I get better. Thanks for the tips on wires, and consider them added.

Finally got some time during the day to work on it over the weekend! So much more enjoyable if I'm not stumbling over myself just to thread a screw.

Cheapskates installed and properly tensioned, uprights set at 90, top plate on, all wires ran and ready.

Also, a quick question to those reading, is it normal for the onyx to not be 100% flat?

Yes, but you can make it have much less deflection if you just finger tighten the screws holding it down. Mine was quite bowed up in the middle until I asked the same question. Went back over the screws and just tightened them ever so slightly past snug. Then check for it being flat and it was damn close. When I put the gals on it was nuts on! I've had to tighten the screws one time, but thats a good thing to do with all the connectors as you use your printer!

When I started this build log, I was going to document and showcase all of my spectacular fails along the way. But some serious credit to SeeMe CNC. They know how to ship a kit with good instructions. Once I got some time to sit down, the next thing I know, I'm holding a fan shroud! So just a few more photos and a minor mistake before it's officially wrapped up. When I soldered the Thermistor on the hot end, I didn't solder it well enough. It was attached, but the machine would shut down the extruder and hot end. Sometimes, the computer would read the temp, sometimes the machine, but it would always seems like a connection issue to the computer. So if after you finish your machine and it says "DEF" next to the temps on the machine LCD, check your hot end thermistor solders

And if I'm not mistaken, I have a small retraction issue and little over extruding, but I like the way it came out!

And thanks to all of the people who gave me advice and told me to keep on keepin on. This thing is a work of art that can produce other works of art. Thank you SeeMe CNC, see you around fellow members.
