Slow extruder heating - firmware problem?

Post by jeffhuber »

I wanted to put this in another post since it's probably a separate problem, but I've got issues with an E3D-v6 extruder on a rostock heating very slowly (2C/min) that seems to be related to the firmware.

I checked all connections - no shorts, and the extruder was definitely heating, just very slowly. I switched the board to another printer (mainly to test an issue with another board), and when I turned the new printer on, the extruder was also heating at the same very slow rate, which makes me think it's associated with the firmware and not with any loose connections.

I've tried updating the firmware to account for the E3D-v6, and I've tried going back to the original, but no dice.

Does anyone have any insight on this?

Check with a multimeter the output voltage when bed and hot end heater are on.

Bed is at ~10.5V and hot end is at .8V

OK - so voltage for hot end is really low (~.8). I replaced the fuses (10A), but no effect. LED2 is flashing as well. Does this mean a problem with the RAMBo?

Hi Jeff

I came across this thread in a search - I thought I'd post here incase anyone else has the same problem. I also had an e3d v6 lite and found it taking ages to warm up.

I had to increase my EXTR.1 PID Max Value. The default was something like 160. I ended up increasing it to 240. I get the correct voltage and my hot end warms up nice and quick now.

Is that Chris Barrie on your avatar?

MY MAX PID value is set at 255.
When on mobile I am brief and may be perceived as an arsl.

Sure is! Ace Rimmer baby! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXYfnWRp1Q0

I could probably have increased the PID max to 255 but as it stands the hot end heats up nice and quick so I'm happy with how it is at the moment.
