Greetings everyone!
I am eagerly awaiting my Rostock MAX v2 that is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow! I ordered it last Friday morning and wasn't expecting delivery for about a week in a half, but JJ was a great help and got my printer shipped Tuesday to ensure Friday delivery. I contacted him explaining that I would be taking this coming weekend off unexpectedly and said if there was any way for me to get my printer Friday, I would much appreciate it. Needless to say, the customer service from SeeMeCNC has been nothing less than stellar, which is rare these days.
I already have a Robox 3d printer, but it has been less than a good experience. Currently it is not working due to the circuit board dying. It has been a week since I submitted a service request and still have not heard from them, so I am not a happy camper. I have had it less than six months and have replaced the Bowden tube and print head. The dual nozzle head with retracting nozzles worked very well, though. However, the lack of ability to tinker and upgrade the printer got the best of me, along with the poor customer service.
Since ordering my MAX, I have read almost every thread on this forum pertaining to it. So far I have ordered the following:
750 watt modular PSU
TL carbon fiber arms, dual hotend adapter, EZmount kit, motor insulators, and LED light ring
Second EZstruder
Additional fans
Two Dglass3d auto lift hotends
One E3D Volcano hotend
Material for making an enclosure
I'm planning to order E3D Cyclops as well, depending on how the Dglass auto lift hotends work out. While this will be my first build, I already have the basics of 3d printing under my belt, so I decided to go all in on the initial build. I will build it with the stock hotend to start with, until I decide how I want to swap hotends around.
A little background about me. I am an applications engineer for a cutting tool manufacturer and spent about ten years as a machinist. I have a background in electronics as well, so I am very much looking forward to this build. I have successfully printed PLA, ABS, PET+, and Nylon. I aim to build a delta setup capable of running nearly anything I can dream up, so a Kraken could be in my future. While I don't have a mill or lathe at home yet, I have reasonable access to them if needed.

You certainly have the experience to build the printer, if you have the time we would love to see pictures of your build.

It sounds like you're already going all-out on the upgrades, so I definitely recommend looking at getting some PEI as well. mhackney has some great threads on how to do it. I've had PEI on my machine for a week or two now and I completely love it. No fiddling with tape, glue, or whatever - wish I'd had this from the start!

As I go through the assembly, I'll be taking notes if I see an easier/better way of doing things. I was fortunate enough to be the first private individual to install a ProCharger supercharger on a Polaris RZR 900XP and documented the process well enough to provide much better pictures than what came with the manual as well as having the manual updated based on my recommendations for assembly tips and typos. I've read through the Rostock manual, and it seems pretty thorough thus far.
I will definitely participate where I can!

PEI is definitely on my radar for upgrades. I didn't plan it from the start after some less than stellar experiences with the PEI bed in my Robox. But that has more to do with how it is held in place, so on the Rostock it should be a whole different beast. I believe that you are doing it the correct way. Work with the stock machine and slowly add upgrades as you feel they are needed.got wake? wrote:PEI is definitely on my radar for upgrades. Thanks! It is fully built now! Took just over 15 hours up to the calibration point, so I can't complain. The only mistake I made was installing the top plate upside down, but all that was required to make it work that way was a drilled hole for the filament to drop through. Now I'm trying to figure out why the MatterControl software isn't working. It closes on it's own after about 5 seconds, so I logged on to see if there's a thread on it.

I brought my workstation to where I have my Rostock and was able to get the MatterControl software working. There is probably an issue with .net framework or something else on my work laptop that won't let it run properly. But now I found that the Y-axis driver isn't working properly. I swapped the Y and Z axis plugs at the board and the problem followed to Z axis, ruling out a motor or wiring issue. So now I sit here, not sure what to do next besides contact SeeMeCNC, since it is either a firmware or board problem. And given that other people are successfully using the firmware, I'm leaning towards a board issue.....
EDIT: I always amaze myself at how dumb I can be at times. I had to change the motor values because of the manufacture, and I deleted the middle number and entered the new value for the first three. Well as I'm sure most of you can guess by now, the Y-axis didn't have the 5 typed in, so it showed 15 instead of 155. Oh well, at least it's working now!
