Extruder motor barely moving

Post by ninjakub »

When I run print jobs, the extruder motor makes minuscule rotations resembling a ticking clock rather than a fluid rotation like it used to. This problem arose suddenly without me changing any settings as far as I know. The motor rotates so little that almost no plastic is pushed through the hot end. I plugged another motor into the slot and it acted the same way. This sounds like a problem in Scli3r, but I can't figure it out.

Also, double-check you haven't accidentally changed the flow rate on the lcd, or the slider in mattercontrol itself.

And if it's ticking that is the sound of a jammed extruder quite possibly

Note: The extruder retracts on travel fine

Here are the stats from the LCD that I though might be relevant:

Steps per mm: 92.4
Start FR: 45
Max FR: 100
Accel: 6500
Advance Lin: 0
DT/PID: 31.36
PID I: 2.18
PID D: 112.9
Drive Min: 60
Drive Max: 205
PID Max: 225

The flow on the "home" screen of the printer reads 100%

If you swapped motors and the problem remains then I would swap the bad motor to a different axis on the Rambo, your problem could be a bad Rambo driver.
You could also take a good working axis and plug it into the suspected bad port and see if the known good axis shows the same bad symptoms.
ALWAYS TURN OFF PRINTER BEFORE CHANGING OR REMOVING A STEPPER MOTOR FROM THE RAMBO!

I plugged the extruder into one of the tower motors and it ran fine.

It is sounding more like a bad driver on the Rambo. The Rambo can be repaired at Ultimachine or if it is under warranty check out the guys at SeeMeCNC They are a great bunch of guys and easily reached
if you go to the site and use the chat box.
Wishing you the best!

If you are using Steve's Extruder then your steps per mm are wrong. Check the manual it has the correct setting which is 584.
