Quick Change Hotend board
Quick Change Hotend board
Hello!
I'm the creator of the Quick Change hotend board by Yellow Jacket Concepts.
First I want to say thanks to everyone that has purchased one of these boards. I hope you have found it useful and worth your time. The proceeds help our local Makerspace, The MakerHive
If you have used one of these boards, or have thought about getting one, I would like to hear your feedback on everything from Design to installation. I will be making a few changes in the next batch so let me here your request.
Do you want indicator LEDs for the fans, Reduce the pin crimping required, does it not work well with "X" hotend, Do you want a per-assembled option, What problems have you run into while mounting your Quick change.
Thanks!

Re: Quick Change Hotend board
I think that the leds for the fans would be nice.
Re: Quick Change Hotend board
Slightly larger holes for the hotend power wires would be nice. It's okay for the first install, but if you have to remove and re-install for whatever reason it's a pain to get them back in the holes.
Depends on how far you want to go for re-designing the board, a jumper or switch system that would bind certain pin layouts for different options would be awesome. ( http://www.themakerhive.com/FTP/jassper ... E_Main.pdf )
For a cleaner look I mounted the connectors underneath, but that's purely by choice.
Either way, keep up the great work and I be ordering another one soon. ( or when in stock)

Re: Quick Change Hotend board
Led for fan indicator would be helpful visual feedback, the blower fans are quite and hard to tell of they are running. Hoping the led brightness would increase with fan speed, since it is pwm?

Re: Quick Change Hotend board
YES!
Get rid if the tiny crimped pins, use spring cage connectors that you just push wire into... no crimped pins needed!!
Would like holes spaced .100" centers to be able to use header pins and common reprap connectors for the fan and auxiliary conection. Should also work with thermistor connectors.
Jumper option to provide power through standoffs to light ring.
I would pay extra $10 for a pre-soldered option.
Awesome product, keep up the good work.

Re: Quick Change Hotend board
Thanks for the Feedback guys!
@KAS - I wasn't happy with the hole size for the hotend wires myself, that change will defiantly happen.
@bvandiepenbos - The LEDs can be any color, but everything prints better with Yellow
Some great Ideas here!

I'd tease you about the whole Yellow thing, but I've seen that printer of yours and the color scheme is pretty bad-ass. You need to post photos of it.

I guess this goes without saying, but please keep the pin layout and the main cable connector the same?

Do you have an idea of when the next batch will be available? I noticed you are now sold out on the last run. Thx - Bob

Well, I started thinking and yes that crossed my mind. I would like to have multiple hotends, WAIT!!! what if its a different connector

Re: Quick Change Hotend board
My Proposed changes for the Quick Change Hotend (Yellow Jacket)

First off, the main connector stays the same - no worries
Primary differences:
* R1 is now a resistor array to feed 3 LEDs
* Added Fan1 and Fan2 LEDs
* LED, FAN1, FAN2, and THRM connectors can now accept either the original white JST connectors (nightmare to crimp) or the new "top secret" style
the new style are pluggable connectors that do not require pin crimping and you can still plug and unplug from the board just like the JST. For those that are already set up with the JST's you can still use those in place of if you wish.
* All mounting holes are now electrically isolated. However - there are small solder pads to jump if you wish to use the mounts as wires and pass LED power to the effector to light LEDs or pass Hotend PWM to the Trick Laser Tophat LED's.
I should have the new versions available at MRRF, see you there!

Did you make the hole spacing and/or size of small connectors so .100" header pins could be soldered in?
Could the power 'enable' to standoffs be two holes so a little jumper or piece of wire could be used instead of soldering a bridge? That way if you soldered in two pins the little jumper could be removed to disable power temporarily for whatever reason.
I had a terrible time trying to solder a bridge on mine.
Looks like the solder bridge could be farther away from standoff hole so solder bump does not interfere with washer or screw head.
Could you move the LED connector in somehow so you can put that connector facing down if you want?
Make the holes for hot end power bigger, wires where hard to get in hole.
Where is the thermistor connection?
LOVE the new fan LED's !

Hotend holes any bigger? I might of missed it above.
Re: Quick Change Hotend board
Yes, forgot to mention the Hotend wire holes were increased from 1.1mm to 1.54mm, the cross section of the wire is 1.05mm that is why it was a tight fit.KAS wrote:Hotend holes any bigger? I might of missed it above.

Awesome! looking forward picking up the new board
Also it's funny you mentioned the silicon wafer as I was just getting an engineering sample from Brooks automation. They are sending a 300mm Carbon Fiber Composite Dummy Wafer that I want to test as a print surface.
Unfortunately it's looking way to expensive even if it's the best thing ever to print on.
Re: Quick Change Hotend board
NOTE: This issue has been corrected, leaving post for reference.
Just found an issue with the new version. If you look close at the 3 smaller mounting holes for the J-Mount clamp, the upper left hole is off point of the triangle.
Nothing else is effected but if you have or plan to purchase one to use with a groove mount Hot end you will need this clamp with an offset hole,
http://www.themakerhive.com/FTP/jassper ... _error.stl
Sorry about that and I will get it corrected in the next batch. Not real sure how it happened.
Build video will be posted this week.
