Newbie from NC here.

Hello All,

Just wanting to say hello to the community of builders out there. Just ordered my MAX v2 kit and am anxiously waiting for it to get here. I am completely new to 3d printing and have been doing alot of reading and research as to where to start and came across seemecnc's kit and believe it to be a superior design to most kits out there. I love projects and building so I thought there would be no better way to learn all that goes into 3d printing than building my first printer.

I can't wait to get building and creating...

I do have a couple questions before my kit gets to my door.

1) Are there any mods, right off the bat that you recommend?
2) Any advice for a newbie such as myself? Tips, tricks, etc...?

I don't know how but your message never got a response from anyone.
I personally do not recommend any upgrades until you get the printer built. After the build and using the printer for awhile you are better
able to determine which upgrades are needed based on what YOU think are needed instead of relying on someones recommendation.
Tips, there are a thousand of them, far to many to document here. Learn how to search the forum is the best tip, there are thousands of
threads and you can bet that someone has already answered your question.
Have a great build, and hopefully we can be more responsive to your comments or questions.

Where in NC are you?(EDIT: Now I see you are in the Wilmington Area) Not all that close but not bad either.

I am in Charlotte and am just about to pull the trigger on a Max v2 kit as well. I am interested to see how fast you get yours!

I agree with Eagle. Get the printer up and running for while before determining anything. I will say though, one of the things I haven't regretted one bit was bringing a few additional wires to the hot end for things like lights. It's nice to see the print more clearly. I should also mention that my machine is in a poorly lit corner of the room, so the lights help me a lot. You might not have this problem.

As far as a tip goes, I would pick up an Elmer's glue stick (disappearing purple to be exact). When I got my V1 up and built, I immediately discovered that I had to run out and get a few things before I could actually get anything to stick to the build plate. I started with alcohol and blue painter's tape, but since then I've moved to the glue stick and found it to be way better, faster, and cheaper.

Can I find that Elmers glue stick at Walmart? Id imagine they have crafting supplies / school supplies. I have been using blue painters tape but it sticks to the tape/glass like concrete. I have to use a knife carefully to remove the item printed.

Rjlynn67: I was amazed at how fast my V2 machine arrived from date of order. If I remember right, I ordered it Monday and had it Friday. I spent all weekend putting it together, and then tackled the software side the following Monday (yesterday)

The instructions are great and I am already up and printing. I made the mistake of starting with PLA instead of ABS and because of that, I cannot print the PEEK fan shroud it needs. Its just too close to the extruder and PLA, I have heard will melt near it.

I have however printed the lower fan duct and it looks amazing. Also printed the calibration pyramid and an Ipad stand (which I really needed all weekend for the build instructions)

More to come. I think I am going to move on over to the Build thread and start one and add some pictures.

I did the same thing. I only had a roll of PLA to start and printed the PEEK fan shroud with it anyway. It held up for weeks until I got a roll of ABS. I also made the lower fan duct, but that one didn't last so long.

In short, PEEK you could probably get away with for a bit, but the lower fan, make sure to keep an eye on it. Mine ended up sagging so bad it ended up hitting a print and ruining it.

My first mod was modeling and printing a fan body replacement for my peek fan. The next one was a 24VDC supply for my heated bed. Right now I am working on designing plastic clips to hold the borosilicate in place versus the paper clips. I think you will find you just need things to be different and start modding what you need. I also need lights as my machine is in a dark corner of a room...deja vu?
