Printing faster and Burnde filament

Post by tom10122 »

Thanks to John I got my printer printing how I want it (mostly). After 3 Months no more skew ! Now I want to ramp up my print speed to atleast 600mm/m would be awesome, Right now I print at 253mm which is Slooowww. Do I need to increase the temp or anything Like that to print faster?

I also get some burned filament sometimes, guessing I'm printing too hot?

Thanks, Tom

Oh man! Speed that thing up! Try a .3mm layer height print, and set all the speeds to 20mm/sec for starters, and set the temp to 230C (if using ABS) and see how that goes. If you're burning filament, you can either lower the temps, or speed up the feedrates, I go with speed up feedrate! It allows more cooler material into the hotend, so there's less heat-soak in the filament

1500/min? Oh man get that thing tuned up. Turn the knobs to 11! Lol, really, you should be able to do about 10x that speed for rapids, what electronics/motors are you using?

Really ?wow , I'm assuming I need to edit the slic3r settings to speed it up past that? I'm using the 4-axis board with nema 17 steppers

trying to print faster but they turn out weak. Literally, they look like they are solid but the layers aren't close/ melted to gether so it falls apart. I just cailbrated my z height correctly and this only happens at speeds over 500mm/m

tom, what temp are you running? I would say start at ~225C-230C and see if that helps, that's for ABS

No I'm using PLA , my temp is fine, any hotter and it jams. I'm starting to think a lower layer height might fix it, currently using .27 i think .2 might work

It sounds like your temperature is too low. I was able to extrude PLA at low temps (~100 C) without jaming, but the layers would not stick together and the extruder would skip at low speeds. When I increase the temperature (~180 C), I can extrude at higher speeds and the parts are a lot stronger.

The PLA will jam easily. I just set a small fan (about 6 inches in diameter) next to the machine to blow accross the entire build plate. All it takes is a little airflow.

think I got all my problems fixed other then EMC not letting me print faster than 1500mm/m, I'll do a post of all the mods I've made and what they've fixed for future 3d printers
