Hey There,

I plan on ordering a Rostock v2 some time in the next few weeks - hope you're all ready for some noob questions.

I do have a bunch of questions straight up:
- What extras do I need to buy straight off the bat from the SeeMeCNC website? (extra glass build plates? different hot end?) Do I literally only order the v2 kit?
- For the few other Australians out there: Did you order the copper RTV paste and Kapton tape in from the states or find a local equivalent?
- The "Elmers disappearing purple glue stick" mentioned in the manual is the same as UHU in Aussie right? (or hairspray etc.)

I've seen the magnetic hot-end mod linked around the place and will do that as soon as I am comfortable after the initial build

Edit: thought of more questions:
- I have a couple old computer PSUs lying around. What is the wattage of the supplied PSU? Is it worth having a bigger supply?
- Guessing I will need an adaptor to an American plug. Does the fact we have 240V mains vs 120V in the states have any bearing on reliability or performance of the PSU?

Welcome to the forum!
Considering you are ordering from Australia, I would recommend that you purchase an additional glass build plate. The hotend that comes with the kit is fine until you need to print exotic filaments that require higher temperatures.
Purchasing the E3D all metal hotend is recommended but I would buy and build the kit first, get it workling well, then you can better determine what upgrades you want.
UHU glue stick is commonly used as a glue for 3D printers and works well.
The supplied power supply is 450 watts. Some people use a bigger supply for faster heatup times but again, wait until the kit is built before making those kind of decisions.
The power supply has a 120-240 switch on it so it is compatible with your power systems. You will need the adapter however.

I'd try the Tricklaser arms first. I haven't gone magnetic. I think they're worth the $.

I also like the E3D head but you don't really need it. The head that comes with the Rostock is great and reliable.

- For the hi-temp silicone stuff - we use Loctite Superflex Red High Temp RTV. It's available here (can't remember where we got it, possibly Trade Tools if they have them down your way).
- Disappearing glue stick. I use the cheap 6 pack from Aldi. It's absolutely amazing. Called Scholar glue stick Vanishing Purple.

Thanks McSlappy - Even if I were to get the screw-on thermistor I'll still need the RTV paste for the resistors in the hot end won't I?

What about the "kapton tape" that's in the manual? What did you use in place of that?

Just in case I completely missed it: I need 1.75mm filament right? Need to place an order for some ABS so I can make the fan shrouds. Going with DiamondAge unless anyone else has other recommendations. They seem to be the supplier of choice for Oceania

The name says NZ but I'm an export living in Tasmania, yeah.

Searching google and reddit seemed to reveal DiamondAge as being a reputable supplier of high quality filament. I'll look at the ones you've recommended.

Just gonna chuck this info in here in case anyone else is looking:

From what I've read about other Australians buying the Rostock they have not had to pay customs charges. Not to say it won't happen to me but I got a scam call from a Phillipino today (Sunday) claiming to be from FedEx (SeeMeCNC use USPS) who quoted me almost the correct tracking number and asking to settle customs charges.

Still eagerly looking forward to getting the printer - others just please be aware of the delivery parcel scams that seem to be becoming more and more prevalent

All resolved. Apparently USPS passes the package to FedEx for local delivery. Resolved with the local office. The Phillipino apparently didn't think to look at the consignment details and just give me the "shipper's" reference number which would have solved everything. Anyone else ordering from Australia - FedEx can send you info to be able to pay by electronic funds transfer rather than handing your credit card details to a Phillipino over the phone.

This also means I've been slapped with the import tax - about $200 all up.

Well that sucks...Import duty is pretty random - I've had packages pulled up before where customs wanted proof of value when it was only worth a few hundred dollars, but have had packages worth 1000's slip through.

My Max kit still hasn't shipped yet (almost a week from ordering) Guess they ran out of stock...

My bulls%^t meter went to 110% and I told her no thanks. I went home and looked up the FedEx Australia number and gave them a call. Guess it wasn't a scam, I was pinged by the import duty police as well

Hahaha I feel vindicated reading this post. I knew it wasn't just me being paranoid.

All up I ordered on the 14th, it was shipped on the 17th, and arrived on the 24th I think it was. That's pretty damn good considering the Easter break.

Started opening packages and stuff last night. Spent a good amount of time peeling off the masking tape on the melamine which is oddly satisfying. Couple of tiny chips on some of the pieces but that's unavoidable with the nature of melamine and I don't think it was due to shipping. I'm well impressed with the accuracy of the laser cuts
