Getting Started with a Rostock Max V2

Post by heathenx »

Hello folks. New user from Middlebury, IN. I just picked up my Rostock Max v2 from John this afternoon. I expect a lot to learn in the next few days. I'm not new to 3D printing but I'm new to this printer. Expect some really basic questions from me until I become an "expert". ;)

Welcome!

Several of us are also local to Goshen. If you're ever in Elkhart on a Thursday evening, check out themakerhive.com to see where the makerspace is meeting.

See you around town!

I think I'm already a member, Jim.

Anyway, this afternoon I got my feet wet with the Rostock. It's like I've never 3D printed before. This beast if a different animal compared to my FlashForge Creator. I might have to bring this thing to the MakerHive and get some pointers. So far I've learned how to load filament, calibrate the z height, connect to usb (although not interested in running code over usb), pump out some gcode via Simplify3D and take off with my first print via the sd card. However, I have a bit of a problem. It seems like the printer wants to do some kind of a purge line or circle right in the dead center of the build plate just before it starts my print. I'm thinking that I must not have my starting gcode script right in Simplify3D. As a matter of fact, I haven't even added anything to my starting gcode script. It's still stock. On my FF, I have it set to run a purge line across my build plate before it starts my print. The Rostock acts like it's trying to do something similar.

I also struggled a bit with Repetier Host, having not used it before today. I guess I'm rather used to using Simplify3D and before that Makerware. I guess I have quite a bit on my plate to learn. :)
