New Hot end Assembly

Post by midget214 »

My H1 is near completion. I just need to assemble the hot end and fit it to the extruder. The instructions are fairly easy to follow, however it is based of the "old" design. The "new" design is a lot simpler.

My first question is will the foil be sufficient in holding the resistors in place since they are no longer being tightened down by screws.
My second question is - can I use heat shrink to insulate the resistor wires. it makes for a great insulator, but will it stand the heat?

Thanks

thats not based on an old design, thats the new 3mm extruder..... foil will hold it fine, just get some ultra copper high temp silicone gasket maker silicone from an automotive store and put a blob into each end of the resistor holes after you put in the resistors.. and as far as heat shrink, If you are trying to put it where your resistor ends meet the wire, it will most likely get too hot.. so I wouldnt suggest it.

you can coat the resistors in ultra copper so that it displaces any air inside the holes, silicone is more thermally conductive than air. My heatshrink tubing has a temperature rating of 125c printed on the side, not sure if that's the shrink point or melt point. I use heatshrink tube + solder for my thermistor but some heavier duty crimps that came with plastic boots for the resistors.

Thanks for the replies. Just a quick question though. I am finally ready to actually assemble the hot end, and I have all the supplies ready. Can/should I use the adhesive on the resistors as well? once they are in place?
I would think yes, in order to secure them. But it might be a missions to remove them if I ever need to replace them?
