The build has begun!

Post by t1tch »

...Well the prep work has...

Kit ordered - check. It's made it as far as Chicgo so far...

Area cleared for build -

...No

Stress relief for when it goes wrong -

Yep got that covered

Aluminium foil - check (is that to make a hat out of when it all gets to much?)

Uninsulated crimps size 22-18awg - No: I can get them for the silly price of £0.046 each but then theres a £15.95 surcharge to get them from Newark over to the UK, so I recon a little more hunting required there.

Everything else - think so, but theres bound to be something I've missed, in which case the dog will get an extra walk that day... I recon there's a chance I'll have worn her legs off by the time this build is done :D

Thanks - she has her moments :)

Picked up the kit from the post office this morning - think I have everything, so it looks like I have alot protective tape to peal off...

Best get stuck in!

Think about if you would want to paint the edges before taking off the mask.
Have fun building your new printer, it will be a challenging but rewarding adventure.

sorry - was busy building

yes - the two wheel kind is my preferance :)

I'm a hard tail kinda guy - I live in Cambridgeshire, so no real need for a full sus' rig. Currently on a Scott, but much prefer a Stumpy.

I take it you ride?

The build is moving on at a good pace:

Those curtains realy are nasty...

But now I have come accross a problem: the RAMBo board (rev 1.2d) does not appear to have the PSEL USB jumpers of it... expect it's just the build guide references an earlier version of the board...??

Ignore the PSEL USB jumper. It was removed on the 1.2 boards. I encountered the same issue also.

Also make sure you've got the current version of the manual - I tweak it frequently. Check the Official Docs forum for the latest notes.

Yes, I'm a squishy bike kind of guy though. Race a Canfield Jedi downhill bike and ride a Transition Bandit on the local trails.

Good luck with the build...I'm >< close to being finished with mine.

Well it's printing the calibration cube, so far so good...

Nothing has appeared on the LCD yet - suppose that comes later...

Now that is a thing of beauty - wouldn't want to ride it if I had one: I'd need one mother of a mantleplace to put it on display...

The LCD should have come up as soon as you flipped the power switch.

Well, don't think it went to badly:

Obviously has room for improvement :D Watching it as it printed, it only managed to span 1/3 - 1/2 the bridge. The ‘squiggly’ bits are from the attempt to lay the second layer.
Printed in PLA with no part fan – bed at 60, hot end at 185.

Bridging with PLA is just as much art as it is science. I would really recommend you get a layer fan though. Your prints in PLA turn out a LOT nicer. You can print faster as well.

Yeah a layer fan is very close to the top of my list - just gotta get the thing printing in ABS... any ideas what would cause the extrusion width to reduce during the print?

Had a strange thing happen last night: one of the arms detached itself from the cheapskate! it just fell off...

Upon instection it turned out that some gauling had occured between the U-joint and its axle. I had to put the joint in a vice and tap the axle out with a hammer and nail! I thought I'd better check the rest of joints and another one was completely gauled (the axle was turning - which is probalby why it hadn't popped it's arm) and a third was on it's way. So I've lubricated all the U-joints with a little bit of silicone grease to try and stop it happening again.

I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else - or did I do something wrong during the build?

I believe you are the first to report this. I don't think you did anything wrong during the build but it may be wise
to change the assembly manual so that it says to add a little grease to the axles before assembly. Thank goodness
you found the problem before the axles were wore completely through.

Hello t1tch
Started following your post and I'm amazed how fast you received your kit from US. Don't your imports go trough customs?
If they did they work fast over there. Here in Portugal a parcel can stay up to 3 or 4 weeks apprehended until they send a bill to pay an extra 23% VAT + 3% of some other rip off tax . This is one of the reasons I still haven't ordered my kit... I have to put asside extra money for taxes . Hurray for global business...!? :-(

Hi tony3di
yep it went through customs - they do do a pretty good job at turning things round quickly. I know what you mean re taxes, but these printers are worth it ;)

OK, so I've been a bit quiet recently because I've been fighting a problem that appears to be quite a frequent flyer on the forum: the dreaded mid print lock-up. The one with no sympoms, errors or logs...

So after fighting with github - and then reding the instructions :D and then fighting with getting my settings over into the new firmware... I now have a printer that will in dry run at least do a complete print :D :D :D

only problem is I've lost my LCD :|

So time to admit I am out of my league and cry HELP (please?) What settings and where in the firmware do I have to tweek to get my LCD back again? Can I just replace one of the new files with ne of the old - or is that just silly talk?
