Y Axis won't reverse in firmware or after wiring switch

Post by chern »

I finished assembling my Rostock on Wednesday and set out to getting things moving but my Y axis skate was moving down when I sent a G28. I tried reversing the direction in the latest firmware by switching #define INVERT_Y_DIR and got nothing, then I tried resetting the defaults in firmware and flipping the wiring but still the Y axis only seems to go down.

I also had to set my digipot to near maximum on the Y axis to get any kind of smooth motion out of the skate at all. Initially it would just vibrate in place, the solution to which seems to be more current from searching the forums, but I had to set the digipot all the way up to 240, which seems really high just to get smooth motion. It's not a mechanical issue, as switching the X and Y steppers produces the same vibration on the X axis so the issue lies with the electronics or my wiring, but the Y axis skate runs nicely when connected to the X axis driver so I can't see how it would be the latter.

Any ideas on either issue?

Welcome to the forum!
As far as your problem goes, I think you have already discovered the problem. You said that the Y axis skate runs nicely when connected to the X axis driver.
That statement makes it look like the Y driver is defective. If you were to attach the X motor to that driver my guess is that the X axis then would misbehave
exactly like the Y does when connected to that driver. Since this is a recent build I would contact Seemecnc.com and advise them of the problem. They will
most likely replace the Rambo board which means significant down time but some things cannot be helped. Please keep us advised when the problem is resolved
and what the resolution was. We are all here to learn and too help and the resolution to problems is one way we all learn. One thing before contacting Seemecnc
is to inspect the pins connected to the Y driver and see if they look secure to the board (no loose solder connections).

Been quite busy the past few days so not much time to troubleshoot. Finally got a chance today. It's definitely the driver. Nothing on the board seems loose at all and all the steppers run smoothly when connected to the X and Z axis ports but pitch a fit on the Y. Sent SeeMeCNC an email this afternoon about the problem but not expecting a response till after the 4th obviously =/.
