Building, problem with extruder chattering

Post by AndyB »

I'm finishing my calibration on my new V2. Kysan stepper motors, made the Configuration.h change stepper current is set to 165 and tried 175. When I test the extrude feed with E+ on MC, the stepper just jiggles (chatters). I thought the current to the motor might be too low, so I bumped it to 175 and it still does that. I can help the stepper move by twisting the manual knob a bit counter clockwise.

Any thoughts what might be the issue? I'm so close I can smell it..

Sounds like you messed up the pairing. You probably got the coils mixed up when you extended it. Check your wiring, make sure you have good crimp connections and that the coil pairs are paired correctly

Ok, swapped in the X stepper for the extruder E0 port. It works. When I move the extruder stepper to the X stepper connector, it still chatters. So, I've localized the issue to the wiring to the stepper, or the stepper itself. The stepper doesn't seem to turn smoothly like the other steppers do. I'm checking the crimp connections and the pairing now. Thanks for the idea, Nylocke.

Verified that I have Red - Red, Green - Green, Blue - Black, Yellow - White, and crimp order green, red, black white, where green is in the position with the triangle denoting pin 1.

Looking at the other connectors, it appears that the correct order should be red, green, white, black, which would make the picture on the build guide (Figure 16-25 on page 189) wrong.

Ive screwed up wiring on numerous printers numerous times, Ive had this happen at times lol. I never have seen it done as badly as my friends wiring on his printrbot simple though. He got the X and Y axes flipped, the endstops all wired wrong, and he even flipped a fan wire so black went to red and red went to black. I don't know how he did the last one :D

I'm back in business. I just finished testing the extruder after changing the wiring from pins 1-4 to red, green, black, white. Gene, it appears the the latest build guide is wrong, at least for the stepper motors I received. I'm assuming they are Kysan steppers, they say Automation Technology Inc, KL 17H248-15-4A on them.
