Filament Jam E3Dv6

Post by Mekra »

I have been fighting a jam, as of now leaning towards retractions causing a problem. They were at 4mm and had no issues with previous spool of white hatchbox pla. Now halfway through hatchbox silver pla I am getting clog in the same part of my print. Can you tell by this piece I pulled out what's going on?

Also this is where they get before failing.

190
4mm retraction

I put an oiler on but did not make a difference, thinking it may be temps or retraction causing an issue.

Hello, try with a much lower retraction distance and see how it goes.
If you see a lot of stringing increase it a bit, but I wouldn't go over 3mm.

I would recommend:
2.5mm retracts or lower
25mm/s retract speed

PS: by 190 you mean PLA extrusion temperature or retraction speed?

190 extrusion temperature. Retraction speed is at 30mm/s. Thanks I will try these settings and see. Not sure why I started having issues all of sudden? Should I increase temps also or keep those the same and only adjust retraction? The scientific side of my wants to only adjust one variable, but getting this unjammed is driving me nuts.

30 is fine. Yes, just reduce retraction distance and see if that solves it.

Also, it looks like it's a part with a lot of retracts after another right? It could also be that.
If reducing retraction distance doesn't solve it, you could try setting a "minimum travel before retract". Mine is set to 1.5mm, but honestly I never played with it much.

Best of luck.

I think it may have more retraction because of the infill, I'll have to pay more attention this time. That's for the tips I will try to that and see what happens.

I kind of did all the things, bad form I know. Increased temps to 200, retraction down to 2.5, min travel before retraction to 1.5, and turned off infill on the model. I got a successful print again, so atleast on this dungeon terrain it works out for solid pieces.
