Looking at printing a guitar soon, custom designed but similar to this one:

Or one like these:

Anyone have any ideas? Thoughts? Experience? Has anyone here attempted a project like this?

Do you play guitar? What is your end goal with this project? I would personally buy the cheapest, crappiest guitar neck, pickups, and components and put it in something like this just to put on my wall, if I were a musician. No guitar with a body like that will sound as good as the same guitar with a solid wood body, unless the guitar with a solid wood body also sounds meh.

tl;dr: don't do this if you want a great sounding guitar.

Would it even matter if it's electric?

Yes I play, but this would definitely be more of a display piece, a testament to how cool my printer is. I get that the tone would be awful, but it would be neat to have something like this.

It matters, the difference in sound of electric guitars is heavily dictated by the materials used, and the quality of construction.
Ignoring for a moment guitar processors that use the string vibrations to re-synthesize the sound.
Even with high end guitars, a Parker Fly which is Bass Wood and High tech composites and weighs < 5lbs will never sound like a 1957 Gibson Les Paul which weighs 10+ regardless of the pickups on it.
My personal favorite guitar for point of reference is a Tom Anderson Cobra S.

My son printed an acoustic guitar in PLA - gold and back. It plays and sounds amazingly good for a printed guitar.

I am still in the process of making an acoustic guitar on my 3D printer. Very time consuming…

An excellent job in designing and printing the guitar. Looks like son may be following some of Dad's talents and he looks a lot like Dad.
Awesome!
