Hi

I have never 3D printed before, i have a model and it says "218653.00mm" of filament needed, so how much do you get on a spool (which is either 1 or 2 pounds)?

roughly 400,000 mm of ABS on a 1 Kg spool, 330,000 mm of PLA.

Thanks

This is going to eat through filament then.... handy to know.

Will the printer stop and wait for a re-load or will i need to hope i have enough?
Rostock MAX v2, what does this printer do when it runs out of filament?

The printer just keeps going, it has no idea if you have filament or spaghetti running through it. By running the print from host software with the printer connected to a PC, the print can be paused, and filament reloaded manually. You could also manually split the g-code file into two separate parts where you estimate a reload will be needed.

That sounds like a plan (pausing the printer), is there any filament splicing tool?

I assume if you pause and reload, is there a chance your get a "missed" gap or is the filament under pressure so any gaps will be pushed out by filament pressure (i'll have to test this).

I have never done this myself. You would definitely want to manually purge the extruder to get as consistent pressure as you can when you restart. I would actually print a sacrificial "tower" that I could pause the print at. So it pauses and resumes while it is printing the small part that I don't care about.

I have paused my printer while it is printing infill, pulled the filament, inserted the new filament, made sure it was primed by manually turning the motor, and then resume printing.
