I read something online saying that the only way to dry nylon was to bake it in an oven. I remember it saying that sealing nylon in a container with desiccant wouldn't work because nylon is so hygroscopic that it would actually suck moisture out of the desiccant packs!

Well... if that's true... why don't we use it to dry our other filaments! Just buy some of that cheap trimmer line, dry it once, then stick it in our filament containers with our PLA/ABS? Replace the rice, rock salt, or whatever other moisture solution you've got set up.

Crazy talk? ...Or just crazy enough to work?

The only thing I'm curious about is Nylon's capacity. It may "suck" water harder than regular desicant, but it may not be able to store as much...

Get a hygrometer and give it a try. I'm curious to know what you find out!

That would be an interesting test.

I'm a munitions inspector in the Air Force and have ungodly access to large volumes of desiccant and humidity indicators.
Has anyone done a test to determine the moisture levels needed to print various filaments?

I keep mine in a sealed container with about 10ea 16-Unit Desiccant bags, My indicators never shows above 10% but I have no idea how truly dry it is. They turn pink when the humidity reaches that percentage.
