Hey everyone,

I am very happy to finally be posting here as I had been dreaming of having a 3d printer for the last 2 years pr so, until I purchased my Rostock MAX v2 on Black Friday. As of last night, I've completed the mmechanical part of the build and am glad to say I didn't have too many hurdles in the process and that it's actually been an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately I have a very weak background with programming and software and have found the calibration process to be somewhat of a learning curve. But. This is one of the reasons that I bought the printer!

I'd planned on making my introduction post aafter my first print, but I've had two issues (that I believe are actually correlated) that have stopped me from reaching that point, so maybe you all can help me.

First, in the section for testing the extruder motor, the planning asks you to find the extruder temp override PLA preset button, I have not been able to locate that.

Second, later in the planning, it notes that the preset for the extruder temp on PLA is 190C, so I set the nozzle at that temp and then attempted to run the stepper. But I did not get any noises whatsoever from it, no movement or anything.
Help me?

Congratulations on getting your new Rostock Max V2 and welcome to the forums.

I'm away from my printer and Matter Control so I'm working from memory, but will try to address your two issues.

First:
Top right of the MC Control screen should have temperature target/actual readouts along with OFF and PREHEAT buttons (these are the Extruder Temp Override controls). PREHEAT button uses the value in the adjacent register. One or more versions of MC can have additional buttons with preset temperatures for different materials. Either the version you are using doesn't have that feature, or maybe the presets need to be created. If you can see OFF and PREHEAT but no PLA button, you are looking the in right place and it is not there. Adjust register to 190C and select PREHEAT to achieve the same result.

Second:
There is an interlock in the firmware that prevents the extruder motor from running unless the hot end is at operating temperature. This is meant to prevent jamming the extruder or stripping the filament. If you've already got the nozzle up to temperature and the extruder is still not responding to commands the interlock is not the problem. I occasionally see a condition where MC loses connection to the printer and the manual extruder controls won't work. Disconnecting and reconnecting seems to be the fix. Not sure what causes it.

You might also want to verify that you plugged the extruder stepper motor into the correct slot & orientation on the RAMBo motherboard. The X, Y, and Z steppers plug into the board at the base starting from the left edge, then you skip a socket, plugging the extruder stepper into the next one near the right edge of the board.

Thank you very much, Earthbound. I came home tonight and lit her up, and lo-and-behold there's some loud noises and a clock-wise action coming from that motor! It's all very exciting!
