So i decided to give something a little bigger, a little more detail a try.
Printed in red PLA at 205c, 60c bed.
Right after this print i added 2 more layer fans, so now im running all three and couldnt be happier.
I really think im starting to get this dialed in.

Its pretty jagged and hairy inside, but thats of little consequence to me
thanks for looking. any thoughts/advice would always be welcome. im still very new to this.

Yup that is super nice. Try it in T-glase next (if you want to rip your hair out... I hate that stuff)

I've got a project that would work well with t-glase, what's the specific problem with it before I find out for myself?
Well, besides it won't print in my current printer.

You have to print it VERY SLOWLY -- it creates a lot of friction going through the nozzle. and even then, it does NOT have good bridging or overhang characteristics, like they claim.
It is very pretty, and if you can get it to play nice for large layers it might work for some applications. Or very simple geometric shapes. Anything complex, though, and you're outta luck. (I was printing a small prototype and it does not work well with support, and it doesn't work well without it.
A piece that printed perfectly in 1.5 hours in PLA took 6 hours to turn out like crap in T glase.

Thanks. Looks like I might be sticking with PLA longer than I thought. Still, once I have the RMax working I can use some of the nicer looking PLA.
I just ordered 6 spools of the Afinia PLA for will-call on Tuesday, they print fine in that printer but they're pretty generic looking.

dunginhawk, the vase looks very good, and I like the color.
You are definitely getting it dialed in, congratulations!

Don't be nervous to try it, be prepared. Apparently it's supposed to work better by lying to your slicer about your nozzle size, but I think the real problem is actually diameter fluctuations.

T-Glase isn't that bad! I've had some good luck with it on my Orion. but yes you do need to slow the thing down to a snails pace and large layer heights are very pretty. I found increasing the nozzle diameter in the slicer to 0.6mm (its the standard 0.5 mm nozzle) helps with vases. Also I should add it doesn't like to stick to blue painters tape but the glue stick method works really well (I use UHU yellow glue sticks because you can't get Elmer's in the UK)
