Replacement Peek Fan

Post by RocketMagnet »

My Peek fan sounds like it's on it's last legs after only a week so I'm looking for advice on a good replacement preferably available in the UK.

I'm thinking it's possibly sucked in some fine plastic threads so just wondering if anyone has ever modified the peek fan mount to mount a guard on it but there isn't much room to do so.

I just ordered a couple off of EBay, 7 dollars each,,, with ball bearings. Of the three fans supplied with my Max, only the layer fan has survived.

My original peek fan was very unbalanced and noisy. I replaced it with a Top Motor DF122510BL-3G, and it's very smooth. Now I have an E3D hotend and the fan that came with that one is smooth too.

I've ordered a better fan. As it's an Orion Delta I didn't build it so looking there are two/three approaches as far as I can tell to replace the fan.
Remove the hot end with the 3 screws from the top or it looks like the Delta arms could just pop off their mounts or remove the 2x screws from the top of the delta arms .. pop out the bar and swing the arms down out of the way?

If I'm loosening off the Hot end mounting screws presumably they are torqued back down.. so what torque?

Will certainly be adding some JST connectors while I'm at it though and rerouting the peek fan cable as the delta arms are catching it.

The torque would be "Tight". Easiest way is to just loosen the three screws, you don't have to remove them, and move the effector so that the arms nearest the fan are horizontal. the shroud just clips onto the aluminum standoffs. After you reinstall everything, make sure to recalibrate your Z height.

Yeah that worked, thanks for the help Mac. It is exceptionally close to coming out without loosening anything if you drop the back arm to minimum and the others to max. With a chamfer on the base of the back of the fan shroud it's tool less replacement.

I did have an issue with the new fan as I was getting tiny holes in very thin walls with ABS, turns out my "Tight" isn't the same as your "Tight"
as nipping them up tighter fixed the issue. So you were spot on with the "TIGHT" statement :D

I should have known really as when I recalibrated my Z Height the first time there was a relatively big difference in the new to old Z Height setting.. so I suppose that's a good indicator and I should have realised...

Still for that I'd personally like torque settings as the 3 screws will need to be done down evenly to the correct Torque IMO.

Just been modifying the Orion UI today and compressed it down to additionally display %Fan Speed and %Heater loads for Nozzle + Bed.. along with the other stuff. Agree the UI is perfect out of the box and there is only so much screen space and it's designed to be understandable... now I don't need it like that though.
Planning on totally replacing the "2nd" top Menu with more instantaneous Data (I don't need instant access to totals of Filament used or printing time... that infos on the EEprom accessible from the Repetier software anyway). One thing I would like quick access to on the "2nd" top menu screen if I can work out how to do it is display current File Printing from SDCard, wondering if anyone has already done this?
Probably have to assign a variable to the filename when you select it if it doesn't do that already, if it does it already it will be really easy.

Reason is I've clicked the button and accidentally twisted at the same time onto a different file so would be nice to be able to quickly check I'm printing the file I want to be  .
