Q: about Velleman

Is it normal for it to turn on with the pot turned all the way down?
I have done the resistor swap for the hot end (10kohm on R5)
It turns on as soon as I put 12V to it.

I replaced my resistor as well and it begins heating the second I turn on the 12 volt power. Having the lowest value being room temperature would be wasteful of your pot range and control accuracy. A perfect minimum setting would be just a little too cold for all plastics you want to use. I added a separate switch to the 12 volt power input to my velleman to turn it on and off separately so I could work on the motors without having to worry about burning myself on the hot end. Best Wishes - Mark

Thanks Zaphod, I finally just turned it on and let it warm up, with a 10kohm resistor it levels out at about 185c, might have to play with that resistor value a bit, but I am going to be running 1.75abs. Right now I have the new
Seemecnc 3mm hot end and have retrofitted it for 1.75 filament. It really is a nice looking hotend hopefully it holds up to a first test better than my last one!

Could you give us the procedure for using the new 3mm hot end with 1.75 filament?
I would like to buy the 3mm hot end but I have many spools of 1.75 ABS. Would you say that the 3mm hot end
is a better design than the 1.75?
Sorry for all the questions but if I don't ask then I never learn.

I do not know how well it works yet, but will post soon in my build thread if it is successful.
I do like the one piece design rather than the 2 piece. But what "really" sparked this mod is that I got my hotend "sort-of" dialed in, and then proceeded to drop the nozzle on my concrete floor, putting a nice flat dent in the end of it :x
So rather than wait for the new nozzle I modded the new one because all I have right now is 1.75 filament. Plus I wanted to add provisions to remove the hot end (ie: plugs)
