Orion uneven bed temp, bad bed?

Post by PopolZ »

Hi guys,

I'm having some problems with my new Orion.
I've had 7 successful prints since I've received my printer a few days ago.
Yesterday night a print was pretty badly warped and I assumed my glue spread on the bed was the issue as I had 2 successful prints and started a third without reapplying.

So today I've cleaned the bed with some bonami and a microfiber towel, held the glass by the edges, reapplied glue and started my print again. Warping galore...

I've let my machine cooled down while I did a bit of research.

I've set my bed to 60°C and put both my hands on. On the left side it didn't take long that I had to remove my hand but on the right side it was barely warmed up.

Right now it's been set to 70°C for about 10 minutes. The left is untouchable and on the right side I can keep my fingers on for 10-15 sec.

I'm guessing bad bed but total newbie here.

I would say the same; however, do you have a good multimeter with an external heat probe?

Also, does it behave this way at higher temps? I have a couple of cold spots on mine - I've just cranked up the temps to get some sticking to happen.

Lastly, I would pull off the front cover and check the heated bed wires. Just make sure they're tightened down. Wiring diagram below. They are along the top to the right.

No heat probe for my multimeter...

I've just tried it at 90°C for ABS and yes it's also colder on one side but thanks for your suggestion. I just found the connector unseated a little at the top. I've reconnected and I'm about to start a print and see how it goes.

I'll report back later!

I've been having the exact same problem with the bed on an Orion I recieved about a month ago, right side is not heading at all. I've checked the connections but everything seems to be making contact. Please let me know if you find the cause - it's preventing me from being able to print anything without major distortion.

Well I've retried my print with ABS at a higher bed temp. Same warping issue. I'll get a temp probe tomorrow at the hardware store and have some numbers to back what I'm feeling.

Once I have some data to back me up I'll email the support.

I've tried my print with a left offset. No warping.

Got an IR thermometer :o

Here's a few reading....

I'm having adhesion and warping issues on large prints on my V2 max.

I changed to the pei material, but I'm still having issues with the corners of the prints.
Checking it with a IR thermometer yielded right on 90 C in the center, but 65-68 C out near the border of the print area.
Is there anything I can to make the bed heat evenly or do I need to call Customer Support.
