I will be putting it through its paces tomorrow from work and will try to set up a webcam on it in the reprap irc google hangout and try to keep it printing all day while I'm at work.

It really has a cool factor that I love too, I've always loved clear electronics where you can see the guts lol..

Man that looks nice! My experience with the Rostock Max and acrylic was not to good though.
It has a tendency to crack over time and although it makes a handsome printer I would not buy
another acrylic.

In the other thread, they did say something about the design, that something in this design makes it more suitable. Though, you having issues, makes your trepidation understandable.

correct, we all agree on the acrylic not being ideal for the romax because of its size... the smaller profile of the orion makes it a little better as far as the cracking issue goes, but thats also why we are only going to be selling 10 as a limited run, assembled and not shipped lol.... but so far I was able to drive it home, print on it last night, and brought it back here to the shop and its printing now again..

I have it printing in a google hangout, tho its from my netbook so the quality prolly sucks, but its there...

Is it just me or does that look like thicker acrylic than the max used?

Could be just me though, or that fact that the smaller machine gives the impression of the thickness being larger.

One and one quarter inch thick sheets polymerized from a monomer mixture of about 88 weight percent methyl methacrylate and about 12 weight percent butyl methacrylate or from about 76 weight percent methyl methacrylate and about 24 weight percent ethyl methacrylate are useful as indoor and outdoor ballistic glazing materials."

They have a patent on it, and it's expensive. Around $1500 for 4x8 sheet. Normal acrylic is just to prone to even microscopic crack propagation. Which is really sad because it has a "way to cool" factor

well that settles it then, my next build is going to be out of YAG

...or they could add 2mm anti-crack holes to the corners of each pocket.
