insulating thermistor and hot end wires

I used some PTFE sleeving from McMaster-Carr to insulate my thermistor wires (0.012" ID, http://www.mcmaster.com/#5335K9) and my hot end resistor wires (0.034" ID, http://www.mcmaster.com/#5335K13). Seems easier than using Kapton tape or RTV.

Dan, I do the same and agree. I then wrap the entire hot end with 1/2' Kapton to hold everything in place.

cheers,
Michael

Ordered! :)

I don't know who wrote up their shopping cart application, but they should be shot in a public square as a warning to others. The damn thing didn't give a grand total with shipping! Grrrr.

Yeah, I was worried about shipping cost also. Turns out they're about a 90 minute drive away, and they used same-day ( ! ) shipping at a cost of about 4 dollars and change. Can't beat that!

In McMaster's defense - they calculate the best shipping rate for the products ordered. I run a small mail-order business and calculating accurate shipping rates so I don't overcharge my customers is a major pain. They have a much bigger product selection with a huge range of sizes and weights. I've placed well over 100 orders over the last few years and the shipping has ALWAYS been reasonable and right in line with what I know it costs to ship to my customers.

Regards,
Michael

I really wasn't concerned about how much it was, I just _needed_ to know WHAT it was.

My approach i think the easiest and the cheapest
I insulated the wires for the thermistor and resistors with high temp thermal insulating shields (don't know translation) which i recycled from old CFL light bulb. Look here: http://www.instructables.com/id/Useful- ... -out-CFL-/. Wrap it around with kapton tape recycled from some old electronics. The only cost was RTV silicone. Cheap. Easy and no possibility of short circuit.

I just posted how I wire up my hotend and insulate the thermistor wires with the teflon tubing.
