Part fan modification for tight enclosure

I'm working on an enclosure for my Max V3.

The stock part fan setup provides a massive amount of cooling, but it also hangs significantly outside the extents of the base plate at full travel.

I wanted to build a nice, compact enclosure but the fan setup prevents that. As a fix, I made some fan shroud/mount pieces which move the fans above the extruder. They have to be up and in pretty far to clear the arms when the effector is right next to a tower.

I'm sure I lose some airflow, but I'm not concerned, I was running the fans at 10% speed before. I think I have better air flow direction now anyway.

It no longer looks like a Tri-copter, but is nice and compact now. I don't believe this has any significant effect on the extruder cooling fan as the air ducts run behind the posts which were already there.

Neat! those fan ducts look great.
Thanks for sharing.

That's pretty clever. Nice job!

Very clever there. Now I want to come up with the lowest possible profile fans for the older ball joint effector, with the tabs and all (since I have an aluminum one, I don't think snapping the tabs off would be a good idea at all)

Cool.

Can you share the file?

I put it on thingiverse, but it seems I need to wait another day to share it since it's a new thingiverse account.

Here's a photo with the enclosure (except the door, I decided to buy a thicker piece of plexiglass for that.

I did think to paint the LCD enclosure before assembly, but not the skates. I wish I had, but not enough to take them apart and do it.

The enclosure design just has one top bracket and one bottom bracket. It's a re-mix of this one: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1664735
The plexiglass is moved out right to the edges of the bed, and the support arms are longer.

You could actually use the top everywhere but they're not quite as strong. They have a cut-out for the carriage to fit into at home position.

The pieces of plexiglass need to be 27.5 inches high, and either 12 or 6.5 inches wide.

I ended up cutting the plexiglass with a router which worked really well once I got the hang of it but made a huge mess in my shop.

I used a soldering iron to "drill" the holes in the plexiglass for the bolts and bowden tube.

Behind the hole in the front base plate, you can see the SSR for the heated bed and its heatsink.

Has anyone found the files on Thingiverse and can provide a link?

Wouldn't be better to have the fans mount the other way- facing out so instead of pulling in air from around the heat sink, it's pull air from outside the hotend area?

It wouldn't work due to the arms.
They could be up even higher and in more and facing striaght up though ( I think, not certain if there's enough room for that ).
Something like that could definitely work if you made 3 different shrouds with different lengths.

The extruder fan is blowing most of the heat to the side already though.

Howdy!

I am busy printing these fan shrouds to focus the cooling so my smaller prints don't have a cooling issue anymore.

Would be better if it used radial fans for better air volume.

If you find some better fans, let is know. With a cage fan, you'd probably need to angle them a bit to leave room for the bowden tube.

cool design.

can you please upload an open file so I can change it a bit?

Sketchup files are already there on thingiverse.

I've printed and installed these. Thanks for the excellent design!

If I get motivated, I may redesign these with a bit more curviness and a bit more length to duct the air right down near the nozzle. If I manage it, I will post here with links.

Thanks again!
Tim

I love it but can you please mod it to fit the 713 parts?
