PLA Filament snapping??

A few months ago I bought a new spool of PLA filament (my first spool of PLA actually) and I would use it every once in a while depending on the project. This summer I did an abnormal amount of traveling and due to that I havent been able to print. Considering I know that PLA does not fair well with excessive amounts of moisture, i put the spool in a plastic bag along with the bag of silica gel it came with.
I tried printing earlier this week with the PLA and I would not be able to get through any print due to the filament snapping??
I tried cutting the filament to where the filament would not snap and then I would try again, but eventually it would snap again?
Does anyone know why this is happening?? Thanks :)

I bought a couple spools through either BH Photo or Gov Connect (procurement system at work) and I ended up with a few spools that I threw in the recycling. The filament would snap from the stress of being unspooled and straightened out. If it didn't happen during a print, it would happen overnight while the machine sat idle...

I haven't tried it myself, but I have read online where people have baked that moisture out of their PLA rolls.
