Layer fan not activating during bridging

Hello,

I'm currently calibrating settings for achieving decent results via abs, I've reached the problem of bridging with such a material.

I'm attempting to run the layer fan when the extruder bridges, and I have selected the settings in mattercontrol, however the fan will not activate during bridging.

the fan works via manualcontrols, it however will not prompt when needed by itself.

any advice appreciated!

Thanks

Kyle

Using a fan on ABS is a pretty effective way to ruin a part unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing.

You might want to try increasing your bridging speed instead.

Open the generated gcode and see what code it's passing to turn the fan on and off. Compare to the RepRapWiki documentation on gcodes for Repetier firmware.

I know how cooling effects abs, I'm trying to see if I can merely cool the first bridged abs because at the minute it's a pile of goo!

I'll take a look. Thanks!

I've found that judicious use of a fan with ABS can greatly enhance printing quality... with the emphasis on 'judicious'. My ABS Marvins looked like poo until I printed a good fan duct and got my settings right.

That said, to help bridging, try adjusting your bridge flow ratio. If the filament is falling down while bridging, lower the ratio, this tends to stretch it out more. Too low and you snap the filament though. Increasing bridging speed can also help.

How do I adjust the flow during bridging only?, not familiar with a particular setting for this.

Is this matter control?

checked the code, I have the same code as displayed there, doesn't give me any further info to solve as to why the fans are not being activated during a bridge while printing.

Nope, it's slic3r.

I find that slic3r gives almost enough control over the printing process. I haven't found another slicer that doesn't frustrate me greatly within 5 minutes.

Since you're using Sli3r, check the Advanced page on the Print Settings tab. The field you're looking for is called "Bridge flow ratio".
Hop over to the Filament Settings tab and make sure that you've got "Enable auto cooling" checked and you've got valid values for the Min & Max fan speed. Check to make sure "Bridges fan speed" is 100% (or whatever works for you).

Good luck!

I'm using matter control, however if slicer is the better option I'll go for that instead

Matter control has the option of using Slic3r. Go to options and select Slic3r as the Slice Engine.

I see, will this enable the options further/different options?

The slicing options in matter control change depending on which slicing engine you have selected.

thanks all for the help, I'm slowly getting closer to understanding the software/hardware :)
