Hello from the Great White North

Actually it looks like spring is coming early this year to Ottawa, Canada. We're supposed to be one of the top 10 coldest capital cities (formerly number 2) but I think most of the Northeast US had a harder winter than we did.
I picked up my Rostock Max V2 from the Black Friday sale in November and assembled it almost immediately. I've primarily been stalking the forum since then but finally thought I'd introduce myself. I also have a Shapeoko 3 and that forum and the SeeMeCNC forum are both amazing sources of information and know how. I had almost no issues assembling my Max due to the great assembly manual from @geneb and the quality of the design of the printer kit. The only issue I had was that I snapped the plastic base covers when trying to bend and insert them right at the end. I contacted support and JJ had new covers in the mail the same day.
I have done over 300 hours of printing so far in PLA and ABS with only a few issues and I think I've had reasonably good results. I tend to use Fusion 360 for all my designs and I've pretty much only used MatterControl with MatterSlice so far. I'm a big fan of Fusion 360 and use if for both 3D printing and CNC work. My Max is pretty well stock with the stock hot end and build plate, however, I did install the stepper isolator mounts at assembly time and I have added some accessories.
I replaced the spool arm because I found that the spools on the stock arm created a lot of rocking during retractions. My new arm uses 5/16" threaded rod with 608 ZZ skateboard bearings. I printed a mount to hold the threaded rod in the stock spool arm bracket and then printed some 'spring loaded' hubs that fit into my filament spools. The bearings fit into the hubs and everything is smooth as silk.
I recently added a 60 mm angel-eye LED ring to the print head. I had to remix the layer fan shroud from JJ Johnson and design a bracket to fit on the bottom of the new effector platform. Both items are on Repables: http://repables.com/r/729/
I purchased a really cheap 8 inch windows tablet which I mounted to the front of the printer so I could have local control of the printer. I use the tablet in combination with my favorite accessory, the 'OctoPiBox' I put together. Its a case I printed that contains a Raspeberry Pi running OctoPrint and the Pi is interfaced to a couple of relays, some push buttons, switches and LEDs. I wrote a plugin for OctoPrint, https://github.com/hcomet/OctoPrint-OctoPiBox, that lets me remotely control the relays so that I can power on and off the printer and some lighting. The plugin also lets me set an auto-off delay to turn the printer off using a configurable timeout after a print is completed. I use the tablet to locally start a print and then I can monitor it from my office using OctoPrint and a Pi camera.
I've had a lot fun with my Max so far and intend to have a lot more. Thanks for a great product SeeMeCNC and thanks to the regular knowledgeable contributors on the forum.
