The best part for the duet, for me, is being able to print models with so many polygons that you can no longer see their edges... completely smooth. Most other boards, even 32 bit ones, would stumble on this.

So glad I ordered the 7" panel. Just waiting on the board from Filastruder, and the panel to get here from Hong Kong.

Is the PanelDue *required* to be able to use the Duet? I can't see another $100 just for a screen.

Another question for Michael, I am sure that you have seen the V2 Rostocks and wanted to pick your brain and see if you have any idea on how to mount the 7" paneldue on the V2.
I don't think that the box you created for the V1 would work for the V2 and I was curious if you may have any ideas.

No, you don't need a panel for the Duet. You can connect it over USB and use a host software if you really want or it has an Ethernet port and a very nice web interface.

thumbs up on one stop shopping for the whole 7" package. when you post that they are ready to go i will be there in line with my card.

Gene, I'd recommend using the web interface over ethernet and you can certainly live without the panel. The web interface is excellent.

Carl, one option would be just to have the display in a box on a tether and not fastening it to the Rostock. The case I have is actually just sitting there, it is tethered and that is how I usually use it.

The tether idea is a good one and I will probably use that. I do not want to start cutting into the Max V2. Thanks for the idea.

Carl, I took a look at the photos of the V2 and it does look like you could mount this panel and box where the GLCD panel is mounted. It might hang over the left and right edges a bit but that would not affect anything. The other option is similar to the way the MatterControl touch panel is mounted.

For a v2 it wouldn't be that hard to just print a new melamine face plate that would hold the display panel and use the original nylon thumbscrews to hold it in place.

It looks like the board is using .156" spacing Molex connectors instead of the .100" spacing that the RAMBo uses, correct?

The t3p3 Duet uses 2.54mm Dupont connectors for most of the connections.

The male connectors on the board aren't DuPont connectors, they're keyed Molex. Are you saying they fit the female DuPont .100 connectors that are used with the stepper motors in the MAX?

The t3p3 site says:

Although screw terminals are shown, most DuetV0.8.5s have either plain pin headers or polarised latching Molex KK-type headers. Regardless of header type, the pinouts are the same.

Maybe they changed it since they made mine. Latching connectors sure would be nice.

On the Duet 0.8.5 board the PanelDue can plug into one of two locations:

The expansion header (which is where you connected on teh Duet 0.6.5) which has a 6 pin (2x3) connector. This is the connector that comes with the pre-made PanelDue harness.

The new Panel connector which is a 4 pin non-polarized (1x4) connector at the opposite corner of the Duet. You need to get the appropriate connector and change the connector that comes with the PanelDue. You can see it at the upper right corner here:

Roland at Think3DPrint3D (Duet designer/maker) told me this morning that they are now using polarized latching connectors - Molex-KK style - on all new v0.8.5 Duets.

Is the pin spacing on the Molex connectors .100 or .156? If they're .156 I need to make adapters...

Agree! I started building a CAD file (.3dm) to do exactly that....... sized to use the original nylon thumbscrews as well as be a mount for the Duet, Duex4 and 7' PanelDue with the controller. I do not have these in hand yet (only the Duex4) and not quite clear how the controller attaches to PanelDue, thus the size required.....

Once the boards are here then I can refine the sizing.

Here is working model for the base and face plate for the Duet, Duex4, and PanelDue, which should attach to the V2 with the nylon thumbscrews.

I bought some 40-pin male to female breadboard jumper wires to attach the PanelDue to the controller (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00U8 ... UTF8&psc=1). I also bought a 40-pin ribbon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0107 ... UTF8&psc=1) with male pins (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00U8 ... UTF8&psc=1) as an alternative to connect the PanelDue and controller if I don't like the jumper wires.

Once I have all the boards and PanelDue I can make sure the sizing is correct as well as add some "tabs" to fasten each board in place inside the base. Still need to add some slots for venting.
