yes those pins are improperly crimped, not allowing your pins to fully seat. they need to go all the way in.

My dog came and threw up under my desk, so that took me longer than I thought.... you'd figure he wouldn't eat stuffing from toys if it did that but.....
Anyways.. Here's pictures of my connector. It clicks into place when done right, you should have to press the little tab down to pull the back out, and you will not see the base of the connector
edit: Just to give another example apparently lol...

That's essentially the same tool I have, but for a hell of a lot less than what I paid for it.

I wouldn't mind finding a source for new dies...
