Hi
Thanks to everyone for sharing information. Many hours reading well spent.
I was new to machining ten years ago when I came to work at this shop, now I own it. We have many NC machines here, two of then now run on Mach 3. The rest are waiting, collecting dust and clutter (sad face). There is a big Burgmaster back there with eight spindles on a turret, pretty sure it wants to be a printer.
So i have a Makergear M2. Had it almost two months, bought the S3D and education begins. My only previous experience with machine control is Mach and I miss it. Will be learning Repetier Host next, and other slicers.
Being so inspired by MHackney I have a Kraken on its way. Good thing I like to hike uphill.
There is no need to convince me of the advantages of the delta system, I bought the M2 for resolution and reliability and because I am familiar with cartesian machines. My second print was the demo vase seven inches tall and it was shaking so much I realized immediately you dont move the part. Unless you need a rectangular platform it might be hard to support the argument. My next printer will be delta, and tall. Got my sights on that Burgmaster though.
Another CnC project just going into design is a plasma cutter for tube. Take a 20 foot piece and get as much diameter change as possible. I have a fourth axis with a faceplate I want to use. In my experience its hard to roll pipe true. Lots to think about.
Thanks again, hopefully I will be able to contribute something useful as well.
Hope your having fun,
elmer
