Noob question about estimated print time

Post by Ricky_Spanish »

I'm doing my first decent sized print. I sliced it with Cura, which is what I've been using most often, and for some reason it was skipping the same line in the base layer no matter what setting I used. No problem, switched to Slic3r/Repetier-Host. Now the problem: a 10 hour print in Cura is showing 123 hours in Slic3r  . I could carve this piece out of whale bone with a toothbrush in 123 hrs. My question is, how accurate is the estimated print time in Slic3r? Is this a common issue?

It's a model I designed, do you need the gcode from Slicer or the STL? Sorry for not following some of this, I haven't dealt with CNC for about 6 years, a lot has changed. lol

Here it is. i think it's just being crazy on estimates. It also estimated 225 meters of filament, and this shouldn't take over 40. I timed the last 2 layers and I'm figuring around 10 hours, give or take.

Generally I now only look at the Slic3r estimates (actually, all of them) for a laugh. Takes as long as it takes. If I have a somewhat time sensitive print I'll stopwatch the first few layers, scale to whether they are more/less full and complicated than the "average" layer of the model, and multiply out to the number of layers to get an idea.

I'm learning that. Back in the day, I worked with BobCAD/CAM and Haas machines, and you could set your watch by the ETC, so this just threw me for a loop.
