Orion First Gen Giving NOZ DEF and BED DEF – Need Troubleshooting Help

Hey everyone,

I'm working on a First Gen Orion 3D Printer that belongs to a customer, and it's throwing NOZ DEF (Nozzle Defect) and BED DEF (Bed Defect) errors. The printer wasn't working when it was brought in because the nozzle resistors were burnt out, and now I'm trying to get it back up and running.

What I've Tried So Far:
Replaced the thermistor for the nozzle

Swapped out the nozzle resistors

Tested with a heating cartridge instead

Despite these changes, the issue persists. The printer still throws the same errors after flashing a temp for both for .5 to 1 second then flips to DEF..., and I’m unsure what the next step should be.

Has anyone encountered this issue before? Could it be a firmware-related problem, a wiring issue, or something specific to the Orion’s design? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

It's likely a wiring issue - check the leads going into the controller - you should be able to get a reading on the thermsitor at the terminal block. Also check the bed thermistor.

I also recall that if the room is too cold (16C?) both thermistors will go "DEF".

Thanks, So I've got new thermistor and heater on it, trying the single 40W heater cartridge now, and multiple thermistors... everything seems to check out according to my multimeter... so, last thing I can think of is it's the board somehow. . .

When I check the thermistors when disconnected I get 137.2 K and 140 k depending on the thermistor, and when I have them connected and turn the printer on, I get a reading of 4.76 volts. I also get 4.91v at the pins on the board. Does everything look ok to you guys? I don't see anything burnt that I can tell...
