redone my stock hotend

redone my stock hotend
Well i had some heat issues and it all turned out to be the resistors took a dump, but they logged way more hours then i could imagine.
anyways rebuilt a spare hot end, until i decide witch newer cool hot end i want to go with.
i did however order the Heater Cartridge from hotends.com so look forward to doing that one later.
glad i got it going again i was going through withdrawals lol
anyways i decided not to use ATV to hold the thermistor sensor in this time as i didn't trust it staying in this time and i just taped everything to keep it clear

I think the RTV isn't just to hold the thermistor in, but to connect it thermally to the hot end. You might consider adding a bit of RTV to the bottom of the hole and then taping the thermistor in for security.

Although it is a good idea to wrap up the hot part of the hot end to create thermal stability, i do no think that you should be insulating the shaft leading up to the PEEK. Ideally the hot zone stops before the PEEK so it is not exposed to any heat, but if you wrap it up you could create a situation where you propagate excessive heat to the PEEK which may cause damage in the mid to long run.
It looks as if the fan has nothing to blow on to at the moment.

teoman is correct - you don't want to block the cooling fins in the PEEK section with Kapton.

its been running great fr about 40 hours worth of print time, the upper portion of the hotend is cool to the touch during printing, so its getting enough cooling for sure, but i understand where your coming from, if i notice a change i will adjust, besides i'm gonna do the whole upgrade hotend eventually anyways but def getting better results then before, loving it it will do till i get my new hotend with cartridge, couldn't be happier! just wished i didn't way so long to do this. ohwell.geneb wrote:teoman is correct - you don't want to block the cooling fins in the PEEK section with Kapton.

now i know where i got the idea to tape up my hot end, was from this video, i used about the same amount of tape and just put the thermistor wire held in there. he mentioned to use the tape to help hold the joint from spinning lose, ( i just wont put tape over the plastic fins as much) so i just copied the way he did it, also i have my 40w heater cartridge and new thermistor coming so i can redo my spare hotend.

So after a week and half with 2nd hot end rebuild, i finally installed the 40w cartridge and new thermistor on my spare hot end, have had flawless prints since, and it stays within a degree or 2 consistently, im pretty happy, i didn't use the tapped thermistor but did order a new pre wired 100k thermistor and installed it.
this is the way to go cleaner faster rebuild for sure, i wont be using the resistors again thats for sure!
also no signs of PSU problems but i predict a new PSU since this one has much use!
pictures show how simple cartridge assembled and also no clearance isues on the bottom.
i am CNC a new hot end adapter plate out of aluminum as well, this could act as a heatsink from what i read but the main reason is my stock one has collapsed a tad where the nuts bolt down from removing so many times.
