Re: Print Quality ABS 0.1mm
Try turning on your layer fan to 15%. I find when printing small parts, residual heat builds up under the print head, because it never moves away. Running the fan at 15% gives me better results.

Guilty. I've watched many a print, start to end, thinking, "I will just watch the first three layers."

Nice work. I love the pop-away hot end idea. I've done the crash. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Drag knife.
This is a little Nema14 Stepper with a DIY Tangential Knife attachment. We ran this with Mach3 for cnc routers and it worked well. Mach does tangential cutting though - I'm not too sure about Repetier.

Re: Sloppy FINE Prints, 0.1mm Layer Height
When running any small parts where the extruder more-or-less hovers directly over the part, residual heat builds up and keeps your plastic from cooling. I have had success with running my layer fan at 15%, on ABS, for small parts. Any faster than 15% will cause other problems for you, like the part ...

Re: 3D printers: gateway drug?
Op, my apologies for the hijack - if it goes too long, I will start a separate thread. That huge laser machine looks interesting. Not overly enthusiastic about all that mdf though. I'd be more inclined to build a metal frame with aluminum gantry. I had started designing my router as a vertical ...

If you are only looking to cut vinyl, maybe something like this could work for you?
https://www.rockcliffmachine.com/produc ... bit-0-250/
The blade in these is only offset by .25mm or so. I have one for my cnc router - works very well for sign vinyl.

Re: 3D printers: gateway drug?
Its a healthy limit, one that drives ingenuity and learning. I have a Fortus 400 at work, its the most boring grey cabinet sized box I've ever met. Personally I can't wait for my next shoestring project. Exactly. Having a low budget is part of the challenge. I bought my first two cnc routers, yet I ...

Re: 3D printers: gateway drug?
I saw my first SLA part back in 1994 - it was a prototype for an internal part of a gas pump. The mold shop I worked for had to build a tool for production. I remember several of us standing around saying, "Really? A laser and liquid"? I have been hooked ever since. This is the first time I admit to ...

Me too apparently because that sounds pretty cool!Holy1 wrote:I like my machine to warm up, print the purge line, pause of a second and then "boom" all the lights come on and the show stars. It adds a cool factor.
I am easily amused.

Re: Hello from Canada
Here are a couple of pics. I was printing a sports drink bottle, but had to quit, as we were heading out for the evening. The part finish is really nice! Can't wait to do a full one. Sorry about the sideways pics, they weren't like that when I uploaded them.

Got the machine in and put together. I'm very impressed with the quality, and fit, of all of the parts. Great job folks! I have only printed a little cube so far but the part looks great! Melting plastic and overjoyed on a Saturday morning!

Thanks Eaglezsoar! Currently I don't have a printer but am about to push the button on a Rostock max v2. I have been working with the tech for 24 years now though, even owned a couple of commercial machines in that time. The Rostock looks fantastic for the price so I am looking very forward to ...
